Police use Taser on fan on field at Phillies game

The only thing worse than an idiot is a "copycat" idiot. Another fan ran onto the field during the 9th inning of tonight's Phillies/Cardinals game. :angry: Unfortunately they didn't taser his ass.

It is dramatic, and it's not true. I have a taser, and I have had to use it. Many times in fact. From personal experience, the last thing on my mind whenever I've had to taze or shoot someone is "Oh my God, I'm gonna get sued for this. I better not!". Just doesn't happen. And I can vouch for many cops that I work with from time to time, and ex-cops who work for us, the repurcussion to the force utilized is not on our minds, just like politics wasn't on my mind when I was in the military.
 
Everybody take geometry in high school? Remember those "if" "then" statements? They were making logical proof of the problem right?

Let me apply said logic in this particular situation:

If the fan did not run out to the field like an idiot, "then" he wouldn't have gotten tazed.

See how the logic works?? It just don't get no plainer...........:hipoke:
 
I've been going to baseball games for over 30 years, and I've never before seen a fan get tasered at any game I was at. Once or twice a fan did go on the field, and they were just tackled, and taken away.

As to last night's incident: If the security person felt the fan on the field was enough of a threat to use the taser, that's the officer's discretion. The rules at baseball stadiums clearly state "Running on the field of play, or throwing anything on the field of play, will result in ejection from the ballpark". The kid knew this when he went into the ballpark, and decided to be an idiot anyway.

Good for the cop. Tasering one jerkoff to protect 43,000 other people? Sounds like the right move to me.

They weren't protecting the fans from anything, the truth is they couldn't catch the kid and tazed him out of frustration.
Take a look at how out of shape that cop is if you need any evidence.
I believe they go to the tazer far too often.

man, Do I not want to be a cop. Every time these guys do something, people will bitch and complain.

The truth is if the kid didn't run onto the field, NOTHING would've happened to him! I don't feel the least bit sorry for him and the tazing is just the beginning of his problems IMO.

One gets to a certain age and the "he/she's only a kid" excuse falls flat.
 
I guess its up to whatever specific laws Philly has the on the matter. Though in my opinion this was completely justified. The kid obviously knew he was trespassing by entering the field, they tried to get him without the taser first, and they had no way of knowing he was underage.

He had to know running onto the field would result in something like this. He got what was coming to him.
 
All I want to say is: For all those who say he got what was coming; I can only wonder how you'll react the day one of your kids does something completely idiotic (and don't for one second think your kids would never dare do something stupid as they get older) and gets beat down or ill handled. Suddenly because it's your kid it's a whole new ballgame right?

What does that have to do with anything? Do we have to think of everyone as our children in order to make accurate judgments about anything?

Well, obviously you know whether or not you would do it, so it's too easy to say you agree he should've been shocked with electricity in that case. But I suppose hypothetically speaking, let's say you are in a clothing store and get into a heated disagreement with the cashier about returning an article of clothing. Suddenly security comes over and Zaps you with a stun gun and claims your raised voice and angry look appeared as potential for aggressive behavior. How do you feel then? Is it excessive all of a sudden?
 
Weak example for two reasons:

1. I wouldn't know I was breaking any regulations.
2. Security never gave me any warning.

That kid in the stadium damn sure knew he was trespassing and security made every attempt to stop him without the taser.
 
Weak example. Why, cuz you're the king of judging opinions? Did you get a degree in philosophy or something? The example is simply trying to propose whether or not it's justifiable that a cop electrocute somebody if they are not attempting to harm another person. Also, are you sure the cop told the kid he was gonna zap him, if not, your point is weak.

I'm pretty much certain the kid wasn't warned about being tased and that he was no threat to anybody.

But he was trespassing, was told to stop by security personnel, and still resisted arrest. So the tasing was justified.

Your example was weak because you skewed the circumstances to make the victim more innocent than the one at the game.

Again, "IF" he did not run onto the field (clearly breaking the law), "THEN" absolutely NOTHING would've happened to him. He made a choice now he gets to suffer the consequences; last I checked it's called life--now he and his parents can go deal with it!

Again, can't get any plainer than that.

This is a DISCUSSION forum, if you haven't heard; everyone gets to DISCUSS their opinions, and everyone gets a chance to agree or disagree. That's the way it works. If you don't like it, you just don't like it; but trying to be insulting because you don't like it makes you wrong, not me or any other dissenting opinions you don't like.

Besides, at the end of the day, I didn't get my stupid ass tazed for running onto a baseball field now did I? Oh, and if it was my kid? Tazing would be the least of his worries....trust me!

I have no problem with it. Of course, I'm old enough to remember the time when a fan ran onto the football field at an NFL game to steal the ball and Baltimore Colts linebacker Mike Curtis laid him out cold by "clotheslining" him (definitely a clothesline from hell 😀

Obviously nothing, since tackling him could result in a broken rib during which he could sue the stadium and people would whine about how the big bad cop should have just let the kid run around. Can't use bean bag guns, because then it could have hit a vital area and the kid could be injured, and the kid could again sue..

Man, maybe cops just should stand back and let the kid run himself out..
