Police use Taser on fan on field at Phillies game

All I want to say is: For all those who say he got what was coming; I can only wonder how you'll react the day one of your kids does something completely idiotic (and don't for one second think your kids would never dare do something stupid as they get older) and gets beat down or ill handled. Suddenly because it's your kid it's a whole new ballgame right?

I don't have kids, but I sure as hell know what my parents would think AND do if I had done something as idiotic as to run onto the field during a baseball game. One, they wouldn't have been angry about me getting tasered because I broke the law and was resisting arrest. Two, they would have punished me on top of that as well.

Doing completely idiotic things come with consequences. If they hadn't tasered him, he would have been tackled to the ground. Would you be upset if he got rough handled by being tackled?

At the moment he was on the field, no one knew what the hell his goal was. Did he have a knife? A gun? Was his intent to get 15-minutes of fame or was his intent malevolent? No one knew that so the security's job is to subdue the trespasser as quickly as possible.

Public Caning?... Hey pal take that to a "Caning Fetish Forum".

Well you all make such a big stink out of this. Has anyone here ever gotten behind the wheel drunk?? Bullshit if you all say no, never. That is ten times worse than running on a field so I guess if he deserved to be tasered for running on a field, anyone who has ever driven drunk should be shot in the leg.

Don't Tase Me Bro

I dont know if anyone heard this, but, the night after the tasering incident, yet another jerk ran onto the field at Citizens Bank Park. I dont recall if I heard about it either channel surfing to the Phillies game, or on the news, but the announcers said something like "Oh, another idiot runs on the field". The second guy who did this was just captured by security, and taken away, and no taser was used.

With as expensive as tickets are to baseball games nowadays, one has to wonder why someone would pay all that money to attend a game, and then act like an idiot by doing something all fans who are age of reason know not to do.

The second idiot said after he got caught that "he did it to prove a point." He wanted to see if they would taser him if he ran out on the field. The knucklehead even posted it on his Twitter page earlier in the day that he was going to run onto the field. He was caught with marijuana on him as well. We're not dealing with the brightest bulb in the box here.

Everyone has a right to their opinions on this matter.

Just know that, if your opinion is that you think the officer used excessive force to stop the kid running on the field, you're wrong.

The police have a duty to stop those of us who commit crimes. Since the state leases Citizen's Bank Park to the Phillies' organization, they can set whatever rules they want - and one of those rules is to only allow certain people (i.e. players, coaches, security guards, etc) onto restricted private property (i.e. the field of play). Therefore, someone who violates that rule is breaking a law, and hence must be stopped, so he can face the consequences of his actions.

What if this kid ran onto the field, danced in center for a while, then ran over to one of the ballgirls and proceeded to slit her throat with a boxcutter he snuck into the stadium? Would tazing him still have been excessive force? Would shooting him dead be acceptable to you?

When someone does something as spur-of-the-moment and random as jumping onto a field of play in front of 45,000 people, knowing it's illegal, then resists being arrested, it's pretty clear that they have the capacity to possibly do something dangerous. Therefore, whatever force needed to stop him from continuing to do more illegal things is most certainly warranted. In this case, I believe that the tazer was EXACTLY what was appropriate.

Yes, but this guy didn't run around like a goddamned retard. He calmly walked off the field with the security guards when they told him to stop. He gave them no reason to taze him - the 17 year old did by resisting arrest. The kid deserved what he got and I hope it fucking hurt.

A 17 year old who foolishly runs onto the baseball field waving a towel, then tries to evade capture by stadium security risks being tasered then arrested.

A 17 year old who foolishly gets drunk and drives, then tries to evade arresting officers risks a grinding high speed crash, death, then being buried or cremated.
