I recently wrote a post called "The Real Story about Renfaire Stocks and Tickling" which is now apparently deleted. I'm not sure why, there wasn't anything uncivil about it as far as I know. I didn't get a message about why it was deleted; does anyone have information about this?

The whole Renfaire deal is a very old topic that's been a point of contention among some. The admins probably wanted to preclude what was likely to end badly. Another thing is that your post count is very low. I would advise you to lay low on any controversial topics until you get a couple hundred posts under your belt at least. Also, probably not a good idea to ask publicly about deleted posts. Better to send a PM to Myriads or TMF Jeff.

Cheers,

Yes, I've been registered for a long time but really never posted. I also didn't think the renfaire topic was still an issue but now reviewing what you said it does make sense that the admins would want to avoid the old issues being brought up again. A shame, it was a good essay. I'll try and re-post it on another website if possible since it was meant as good information and not to cause problems. Thanks!

I have personal noticed through the years that there seems be certain topics and people we're not suppose to talk about, but other than the golden rule sticky I've never seen a list of forbidden topics. Instead of just deleting threads out of the blue the Mods should let everyone know why and making a list of forbidden topics would help.

That would be be quite a chore, and subject to a wide range of opinion. I can see the logic in deleting that thread, even though I weighed in on the topic myself. There were some statements made that could have been actionable.

I saw your thread was thinking about objecting strenuously to your characterization of Kujman. I met him once at a gathering in Rockland County and I don't believe that your description of him and his enterprises was fair. I didn't actually make a post there because I was leery of starting a pro- and anti-Kujman war here. (He is controversial.)

But I have no idea why your post was deleted.

There are a couple of guys in the renfair scene who are huge crybabies and throw a hissy fit whenever they get mentioned, so generally we remove the post that lit their fuse rather than put up with their tantruming.

That maybe true Jeff but some people may get leery of posting anything now because it might be deleted

I wouldn't think it would be that much of a chore. One things Mods could do is post in the threads saying why they are about to lock it and then lock it(I've seen them do this in the past.). That way people can no longer post in the thread and it stays up with the explanation for all to see.

Plus, you listed his real name. I have never met Kujman, nor do I even really know who he is, but I can imagine TMF mods and admins would be touchy about you outing people so publicly.

Hmm, real name is well known by now as it's been used on news websites that discuss Ye Olde Nottingham Players.

Mods can do what they like as it's their forum. But probs just locking thread looks nicer to many.

Relax all =)

The issue is that making a list of topics that are not to be spoken of on site would be speaking of said topics on site. And cause the same problems as if users opened those topics. We remove sets of topics that have caused issues over and over the years simply, as Jeff said above, because it precludes problems.

Simply locking the threads leaves the problems still visible also, so it's not a good option either.

The post the OP asks about was one that I considered removing, and decided to allow to remain. 24 hours later it was about a dozen posts long, with more then half of them being GR violations and a nice little flame war brewing up. rather then pruning it back to the OP and leaving it, just to brew up again I killed it.

Moderating this forum is always a balance between letting you guys talk about what you want, and keeping the discussion with at least a fig leaf of civility. It's not an easy balance, and it often takes a lot of time from I and staff, that comes out of our lives, which often have other significant time demands upon them already.

Its been six years now, just curious if that original post is in the archives somewhere? I recall I did a lot of research about it. it would be interesting to read it again if it can be resurrected. Today, six years later, there is not a lot in there that hasn't been said elsewhere on this forum as far as the tone goes.

I wonder if my girlfriend and I could ever afford to pay Kujaman to build an Asian domanitrix anamatronic that would tickle my girlfriend over a rack.

Heh, yeah, wishful thinking I know.

I'd never have that amount of money. Heh. 😉

I'm curious to read it, don't think I saw it when it was originally posted.
