Count Basie And His Orchestra - "Cute" (Recorded sometime in the 1950s)

Great choice Feather and well Count Basie was known for his swing. His rhythm section swinged hard with Freddy Green on guitar Walter Page on Bass and Jo Jones on drums. And well frankly who needs to be a Jazz expert its really all about what we like just good music. You made a fine choice indeed and well your a bigger Isaac Hayes expert!! That was rather suprising news today and you guys really covered it well for a most stellar artist.

I grew up listening to Soul music so I do admit having a lot of knowledge about that stuff. But I love good music, period, regardless of the genre. As for that Count Basie song, you may be surprised to know that I first heard it when it appeared in a Jerry Lewis movie a looooong time ago:

King Curtis & The Kingpins - "Memphis Soul Stew" (1967) King Curtis was a session musician back in the '50s and '60s, most notable for his sax work on hits by The Coasters. One of his final performances happened in 1971 when he played his sax on "I Don't Want To Be A Soldier Mama" which was a track on John Lennon's "Imagine" album. King Curtis would be stabbed to death on August 13th of that year.
