I think you need to have 10 posts before those features are turned on for you. Check out "The Power of 10" box on the lower right hand side of the main page.

To lynn - You need 10 posts to use Private Messaging.

To curr - click on the new thread button when you enter a forum section you wish to post in.
 
Hust to add to MTJ's post, the Power of 10 boxis on thelower RIGHT of the main page. Clicking on the "more" link gets you the following info;

The power of 10 refers to the number of posts you need in order to perform certain privileges on this community. Members who have under 10 posts, or have never activated their user account will still be able to download files. However, we do recommend that if you haven't activated your user account that you do so since we will not guarantee the ability to download files indefinitely for those people.

It's okay if you just registered for the downloadable files, but these perks are now exclusively available to members with 10 posts or more:

» Graduate from TTC|Fresh Member title
» Assign your own custom user title
» Choose custom or board default avatars
» Upload your own personal profile pic
» Create your own unique signature
» Access to private messaging feature
» Submit hyperlinks to other web sites

The whole point of this is to get more people active. We have well over 20,000 registered members in this community, and at last count just under 800 even had 10 or more posts!

We can do better than that. I know a lot of you are shy, but the more people we have contributing to this site with their own personal touches, the better it will be for all of us.

A related question...

I have a message in my Inbox but everytime I try to open it, it tells me that I'm trying to do something unauthorized.

I don't know about any "Power of Ten" boxes but I could send and recieve PM's the last time I was here...the grid at the bottom of this page says I can post new threads, post replies, edit & attach files...

This sucks.

Just make 10 posts and you can get their replies. There are over 11,000 threads in this community to pick from to make those postings. You're not charged any fee and you have over 15,000 attachments you can download. All we're asking in return for private messaging, link posting, and other small but nice perks is to contribute to the community in this small way so to spark more conversation thus benefiting the site as a whole with more content to view.
