Wait until you have either truly dealt with it, or witnessed someone in the middle of a psychotic episode, then tell me they can control it. Not everything can be controlled by will. Some of the "diseases" out there, yeah, I agree, are kinda bogus. But a majority of them are true disorders in my mind. I deal with mental illness every day (not my own) and I'm sorry, they can't control a single aspect of their illness, other than going to their therapy sessions and taking the medication.
It's just a matter of weighing the side effects you specifically are experiencing with the desired effects of the medication. Like I said, Adderoll has way too many serious side effects for me to use it, so I switched to something that doesn't have the same ones, and they are milder in intensity.
And no, I can't control my disease. It's not a matter of just hyperactivity or attention issues, it involves hormones and chemicals in the brain, combined with impulsivity issues and some pretty nasty mood swings. I even tried to, I went off of my medication, for a good 3 years and tried all sorts of different techniques. Didn't work very well. I went back on my medication last June, and I'm doing and feeling better than ever.
The same thing can happen with depression. Lack of certain chemicals or hormones in the brain hold a significant cause in depression.
Nothing is ever as easy as it seems
