Sorry, couldn't resist. Thank you, WWE, for finally doing something different. I did not expect this to happen so soon. Here's hoping C.M. Punk gets a good run with the World Heavyweight Championship, and doesn't end up dropping it to someone else in a month or two. By the way, completely fitting for Edge to lose this belt in the same fashion he screwed Cena and 'Taker out of theirs. The Rated R Superstar just got his comeuppance. Poor Edge. His "wedding" is gonna be so sad. 😀

I was so happy when this happened. I've been a huge Punk fan, ever since his days in RoH. I didn't see this coming at all, but it was awesome, it was a great overall episode of Raw as well, things are starting to look up for the WWE.

And I agree, I really hope he gets a good, long run with this.

I wasn't surprised that someone took the belt from Edge, as both belts were currently on Smackdown. But CM Punk? Now THAT was a pleasant surprise:yowzer:

I'm glad for punk too.

I am glad to read this, I am very happy that CM Punk won a major title. To bad it wasn't the Son-In-Laws belt... funny how that turned out eh? Don't be suprised if he loses it to Batista or Cena soon, after all it's what the "People Want" right.

I certainly hope not. It thrills me that, for once, the champion on RAW isn't someone named Helmsley, Cena, or Orton. Those three have dominated Monday nights for years now, and it was so beyond tired. Punk defeating Edge for his belt actually made some good sense, storyline-wise. After winning Money in the Bank, Punk appeared on SmackDown and baited Edge. They had a main event match that night, in which Punk very clearly should have won. As usual, shenanigans helped the heel win the match. I also read somewhere that he later taunted Edge with the possibility of cashing in on the day of his "wedding" to Vickie Guerrero. So yeah, they had a bit of a history already. It would have been kinda random for Punk to show up and beat Triple H for no apparent reason. I'm really rooting for the Pepsi-lovin' Punk. Vince, please give him a good run. That, and when he finally does drop the belt, keep him in the main event picture.

They have a Ton of talent on Raw and they give the championship to a MID-LEVEL performer. What a joke and a waste

Aw, that's a bit harsh, in my opinion. I'd much rather watch Punk than one of the lumbering big men on the roster. But I'm not poo-pooing your opinion. To each their own. 😉

I appreciate that, they just bring in a guy from the 3rd division; yes ECW is the low dog on the totem pole.

Punk, to me is not that talented or original or charismatic. Someone like HBK, or Jericho would have been a much better choice if those like Batista, Kane, JBL, or other big men don`t float-you-boat

In fact , why not Mysterio. He is a highflier, super talented and a fan favorite.

To me, giving Punk the title really waters down the belt in general. I mean that belt was worn by the ICON Flair for many many years. Punk wearing the same belt as Flair, that IS A COMPLETE JOKE

Yeah they should give Punk a new belt... one that isn't so tarnished. How about the cool looking one they brought in when Savage won the in the tournament.

by that logic

I would like to say that Punk is ALREADY a bigger better wrestler then that wanna be Bret '' the shit-man '' Hart

Hey didn't you just PM me that the ignorant are aposed to chainge, yet here you are busting on CM Punks title run becuase he is a mid-carder being given a chance. Your to Ignorant to go with the flow, and to weak to swim against the tide... you must be really good at treading water.

Maybe one day you will actually make some sense....It just doesn`t look like it will be today!

Adam , sorry for the sidetrack on this thread. Cm punkers have a nice day

Hey Slaver, you know what the people "really want"? They want you to go somewhere else. Again, for a guy who hates everything McMahon, you sure spend a lot of time in WWE threads. Grow up already.

The fact of the matter is the fans DO want to see CM Punk as champion. Personally, I have no idea why, but that's what fans want to see. Like Flock said, this guy has no charisma, he's not original and his talent is good, but not outstanding. I guess this is Vince's way of giving someone a chance to "take the ball and run with it". CM Punk does give us something new to look at, instead of the usual suspects wearing the title.

By the way Slaver, I just wanted to point this out to you again. Bret Hart will NEVER, and I mean NEVER EVER EVER reach the level of Ric Flair. Ric Flair is eons past Bret Hart and Flair's legacy is pretty unrivaled. Not even my favorite of all time Hulk Hogan, will ever be respected as much as Flair is. Hulk Hogan the character is a legend, but Terry Bollea the man has some serious character flaws. Bret Hart did too much damage to his legacy (namely, having fans like you for one) for him to ever gain the same amount of respect as Ric Flair does.

Now back to the topic....I hope CM Punk does something with this title run. Hopefully he doesn't end up like Bobby Lashley. Punk needs to get more charismatic with his mic skills. Another problem is, he needs a bonafide top heel to chase him. Who is that heel? That remains to be seen...

Punk actually does have loads of charisma and mic skills, if he's allowed to use them to their full capacity, if they gave him a mic, and just let him cut a straight promo, he'd probably do great, but he's just not the type to be told what to say, and make a promo out of that I would say... he's a lot better as a heel as well, he pulled off some great promos in heel-mode back in RoH and such. Also, as far as the talent goes, I think he needs a better move set, like the one he had in RoH, the GTS is okay, but I don't think it's really a big finishing move that he needs. I'd love to see him bring back the Pepsi Plunge, but no way Triple H is allowing that.

To try and get this thread back on track, now is when I think we'll get to see how well the draft paid off for Smackdown! and RAW, (sorry to the two ECW fans out there that you brand doesn't get much of a mention here)

Anyway I saw it coming, either Triple H was going to lose to Cena or Batista was going to beat Edge, there was no way that RAW, the true flagship brand of WWE, wasn't going to have a championship.

As for the title run of CM Punk, I think he'll have a nice world title run before it goes around the waist of a established star, this is the WWE's chance to give a young star a big push.

Punk's got the gold, now let's see what he does with it.

I believe that Punk has a little more charisma than people give him credit for. Is he spectacular? No, but the few times I've seen him pick up a microphone, I thought he did pretty well. He's nowhere near as horrid as guys like Lashley and Lesnar were. I'd put him somewhere a step below Edge, from what I've actually heard.

Jericho! Yeah, I'm probably the biggest Y2J fan around, but for some reason, WWE always busts him back down to Intercontinental Championship status. That belt should be used to elevate new talent, such as the current champ, Kofi Kingston. Guys like Jericho should have evolved past that title long ago. All in my humble opinion, of course.

About the World Heavyweight title, they should have redesigned that belt long ago. Actually, there were rumors that they were at least thinking about it. I hope they follow through. This isn't WCW, after all. Like you stated, I believe the old belt's legacy rests with guys like Flair, Sting, and the rest of the old NWA/WCW greats.

Isn`t it ironic that two guys that you mentioned in Lashley and Lesnar were actually REAL WRESTLERS and not actors playing wrestlers as most are today.

It was about time to see CM Punk using his money in the bank.

I think it's too early for him to win it too. I don't quite see him as World Heavyweight Championship material yet. However, he didn't win the belt in a straight-up match so you never know where they go from here. Anyone could've won the belt the way he did. Like everyone else I'm glad to see something fresh on Raw. There seems to be a lot of fresh blood on Raw and I don't know if it's more to do with the additions or the subtraction of HHH. Whatever the case, I'm looking forward to seeing how everything plays out on Raw.

I think it could've been interesting to see both titles on one show for a while. They could've allowed this to play out to the Survivor Series.

Very true. In a pure athletic competition, Lashley and Lesnar would cream a lot of the "wrestlers" on the roster. Actually, I kinda miss Brock. I still remember when he scared the living crap outta me when he botched that Shooting Star Press at WrestleMania. Still, a good, powerful athlete with a good move set.

I've seen rumors that they were gonna deface the World Title the same way they did to the WWE Title. I hope they redesign the WWE Title since it isn't on Cena's show anymore. And I wouldn't mind them redesigning the WHC as long as it's worth it.
