Question about Bee Stings

Yesterday while doing yardwork I was attacked by a small swarm of bee`s. I sustained about six stings, all on my lower body. When I got home from work today I noticed an infected lump on my left leg just below the knee. It is the only one of the stings that appears to be causing discomfort. Any cause for concern???

It might just be that the break was much more violent. Depending on the level of your discomfort, I would either try and ice the area, or if you are truly worried I would go to the doctor.

WebMD might also be fairly helpful with your concerns, as you might be able to go and get a much more detailed response knowing your own condition.

Thanks, meangry. I`ll try the ice. Its been several years since I`ve been stung like that, and I forgot how hard the little bastards can sting.😱

I know man. I was at scout camp and got stung on one of my calves. It was brutal; it felt like I had this horrible Charley horse. The worst was when I was in first grade and got stung behind the ear. That freaked me out for years.

If you are allergic you would have had an immediate reaction,so i would not worry about that.Like meangry said, ice it down.If it does not get better in a day or so i would think about seeing a doctor.

When i was in pest control i got popped on the lower lip by a yellowjacket.Hurt like hell for a day or so,then it went away on it's own.

Did you get the stinger out?

You can also try making a paste of meat tenderizer and water (baking soda/water would probably work, so would plain old mud) and covering the area. Let it dry out.

If it is really infected you need to get it cleaned out - but it might just be swollen.

also try taking an antihistamine like Benadryl or something like that. It helps too.

Thanks to all for your advice.:smilestar There is still a lump below the knee, but its not as swollen as last night. And I copied all the remedies that were suggested. Much appreciated.

Sounds like youll be fine. youd have had more serious issues if you were allergic. im allergic to stings myself. i got bit right on my eyebrow one time. my face literally looked like the elephant man for a couple days. had to stay out of the public eye until i recovered.

Just found this. So, you may be beyond needing this. But, in case you aren't...

Wetting a teabag with hot water to use as a poltice will draw out any remaining junk in the sting location. If it feels hot to the touch or there is a discharge, there is likely infection. Some garlic oil will help clear it.

I once got stung by yellow jackets and was given clorox bleach for them. It gave almost instant relief. You should check to see if part of the stinger is still there.

Thanks, Ann.
