Are views of a story as important as replies even if there are few replies or responses?

Are lack of responses a sign even though there are lots of views, a sign that a story is not liked or cared for?

Been working on Part two of a story and it is quite long thus far but seeing a lack of responses makes me question whether or not I am wasting the time and effort.

I think the best stories are the ones you write for yourself. If others like them/and or feel compelled to comment, it's just an added bonus...

I am inclined to think that views are much more telling than responses, since at any given time there are more guests than members on the TMF, and the guests can not make a response.

This story of mine:
http://www.ticklingforum.com/showthread.php?t=12717
is my first nonfiction story. It has more views than any other story on the TMF, about 39,000 views. It has exactly two responses, one from me, giving a link to Mistress Zara's website (which worked at the time it was posted), and one from Mistress Zara herself, giving her new URL.

My feeling is, if that many people read it, it must be pretty good reading. The huge number of views prompted me to write more nonfiction stories.

Speaking purely from my own perspective... The stories I've written have been as much (if not more) for myself as for anyone else to enjoy. I share them freely so that, if others would like to read them they can. I do appreciate a response, whether it be positive or negative in nature (as long as it's constructive). But, I don't tend to worry about it. It seems that the vast majority of folks don't post anything in response to the stories they read. But, tons of folks read them. That's fine by me.
