Not sure why it wouldn't show up as a burner, might be worth double checking to make sure there aren't any more patches out you don't have yet. Usually you can go to start, then windows update. It'll scan your computer, and also offer hardware specific updates, in case your drive needs a special patch for some reason.
You could also try re-installing the driver which can be done from device manager, right click on my computer, properties, hardware tab, device manager button. Then find the drive, right click, properties, driver tab, and from their you can attempt to update the driver. It will automaticly look online if your connected. You can also uninstall and reinstall the driver if you have a better driver you want to use on disk (if it's on CD you'll have to copy it to your hard drive first). You can also roll back the driver, but it doesn't sound like this is caused by a recent driver change. Good luck.
