When I transfered data over from my old PC everything got dumped into My Documents because my old PC was running Windows 98 SE. Now what I'd finally like to do is transfer all images into My Pictures and only have clips and other documents left in My Documents. Is there any one-click method of doing this, or do I have to laboriously go through the whole thing selecting each pic in turn?

The search tool should be able to help. What OS is your new PC using - XP again I assume?

Anyway you could search in My Documents for files called *.jpg and then select all the results by pressing Ctrl + A. Then right-click one of the results and choose Cut. Now open the My Pictures folder, right-click somewhere blank in it and choose Paste. Repeat for *.jpeg and *.bmp, depending on what the image files are called.

Doh! I meant Windows 98 SE, not XP. I corrected it now.

Anyway, thanks for that Slant, I'll have a bash at it now. 🙂

Got it all done, but now the burning isn't working. Added to that my CD-RW is only showing up as a CR-ROM. Smegging thing.

Not sure why it wouldn't show up as a burner, might be worth double checking to make sure there aren't any more patches out you don't have yet. Usually you can go to start, then windows update. It'll scan your computer, and also offer hardware specific updates, in case your drive needs a special patch for some reason.

You could also try re-installing the driver which can be done from device manager, right click on my computer, properties, hardware tab, device manager button. Then find the drive, right click, properties, driver tab, and from their you can attempt to update the driver. It will automaticly look online if your connected. You can also uninstall and reinstall the driver if you have a better driver you want to use on disk (if it's on CD you'll have to copy it to your hard drive first). You can also roll back the driver, but it doesn't sound like this is caused by a recent driver change. Good luck.

That's odd, it shows as a CD burner in the device manager, but not on MY Computer.

*double checks*

Well, don't ask me why but now it's a CD-ROM again. I didn't actually update or re-identify anything so that's got me well puzzled.

I've got all my files split now though, so thanks guys. Am somewhat shocked to see I had about twenty three thousand pictures on my HD.
