Hey folkses, gotta question for you.

I was thinking of purchasing an iPod mini or an iPod shuffle at some point in the future. I won't deny it but most (ok...all) of my mp3 collection is courtesy of kazaa and the like. Would an iPod have any trouble playing them? I don't know hardly anything about mp3 players and I don't know if there is some sort of thing in iPods that prevent them from playing dubiously attained files.

Thanks to anyone who can answer! A pox to those who can but don't! 😛

You can play any file(mp3/aac file of course), I have an iPod(4 Gb mini) and all of my Kazaa/Ares files play just fine. iPod plays, no questions asked... (the only thing I haven't tried yet is to play a file with low sample rate, like 16 kHz or so... mmm)

Okay thanks! My music collection right now is under 5 gigs so I don't need the 20gig iPod...a mini should do fine for me too. 🙂

hey guys i was thinking about getting one, how much did you guys pay?

You can see the prices here:

http://www.apple.com/ipod/

That's pretty much the range of prices you can find, but the important part is that those are the highest prices you should find(if they are higher than those, they are ripping you off)... And I'm sure you can find lower prices...
I paid 195 for mine, which is not a big diference from the original price, but it's something right...???

I was at the little Apple store at the mall tonight. I am in total sticker shock.
$200 for a 4 gig Mini and $250 for a 6 gig?? My butt hurt after seeing those prices! I mean...I knew they were expensive but geez...
It looks like I could save some by buying on ebay. 😛 Either way it'll take me a while to save as right now every penny I get my hands on is going to pay for me to go to Otakon. 😀

Those are the same prices listed on the link above, so you shouldn't look so surprised Ness(they are high though)... It is a good idea to take a look at e-bay if you wanna save some money. You could also wait for a price drop, but thats not likely to happen. The best choice in my opinion would be to get a 1 Gb shuffle, I've been meaning to sell my mini to get a shuffle myself, a 4 Gb playlist is a bit long to listen to non-stop, personally, my longest playlist(non-stop listening) has been around 700 Mb worth of mp3s... Anyway, I just suggest that you really think about what you want to buy, so that there's no buyers remorse later 😉 ...

My entire music collection is just under 5 gigs...I know I wouldnt be putting it ALL in a player but I'm not sure if 1 gig would be enough for me to have all my really good stuff. So I was looking at a 4 or 6 gig Mini but then the iPod is all flashy with games and everything and the U2 edition looks soooooo cool....damn it Im thinking just the way they want me to think!

Over-consumist at best 😀 ... iPod Photo, I know it looks like you need one when you see it, but again, buyers remorse is a terrible thing... But it really all depends on your needs, and I guess I'm writing from my own. The best thing I can tell you is to give it some thought(objective thought) before you make your purchase 😉 😀

LOL indeed. I scare myself sometimes. 😛

Can't blame you for wanting the bigger flashier thing... don't we all want it...
I blame society 🙄 ...

I don't know why I keep replying on this thread :weird: ... I guess I just like this kind of non-arguement threads... LOL

ness: if you are going to buy a ipod at any store ask them if they have the older ipod minis. these are just as good but they are like last years models. some stores and even ebay may be clearingthem out because every few months apple makes a new ipod mini
