If propaganda works by repeatedly repeating something that is inherently inaccurate, and people start believing the messages after being exposed to them for a certain period of time, what impact does seeing 20 murders or acts of violence per day have on the television viewer of average intelligence?

Do they at some point begin to believe that this is "normal" behavior?

Does a potentially violent response to stress situations become more likely?

Why is it okay to watch someone have their head chopped off with a samurai sword but normal sex acts have to be concealed from view?

Which act is deviant and which is normal?

What are we allowing to be done to us?

(Sorry, just thought I'd throw that out there and see what happens...)

Hmm. Dunno. Do you feel like running out and getting a Big Mac after your 20th MCd's ad of the week? Drink a Coke, or zip of to Wal*Mart for some savings on household goods? Same concept.

Or does your mind change after your 20th "Just say no" ad? Or do you wish to watch 'Must See TV' after the upteenth promo?

Lot's of debate here. No proof one way or the other. Odds are it has some effect on how people think about violence. The extent? Who knows.

Myriads

I always watched 'must see tv' because they said it was 'must see.'I didn't feel like I had a choice.

I could probably start a war over this one...

But I won't. I'll just quickly state my opinion. I am strongly against censorship. Perhaps, for violence, it may be a good idea to shield young children from it. (Early development) However, once one's beliefs and personality become firmly established, it will take much more than to simply witness an act to repeat it. (And I believe that happens MUCH earlier than age 18. Where the hell did we come up with that age?) I'd better stop before I get carried away.

Personally, I can watch anything and remain unaffected by it. Now I'm off to make a collect call using 1-800-CALL-ATT, because it will save the people I call up to...damn, I forgot how that ends.
