Random Banter Thread

There are already 7 spam threads in the general discussions forum alone. All or most of them have to do with her and all or most of them are continually bumped up (right now as I type this for example, all of them are at the top of the page). They stick out like a sore thumb now, and this may discourage people who actually have something to talk about from doing so (I'm not talking about myself but just anyone in general). If they can't see this particular forum as conversationally inviting or diverse, then they won't post for fear of their topics getting run down by these existing spam ones. They also won't post if they see this degree of silliness as the only thing thats taken seriously or with value.

I cannot possibly be the only one who thinks you guys are overdoing it at this point. It's not Kimiko's fault. She's merely a vessal and emissary through which this all transpires. Its not about who these threads are about or what they were originally about, but the fact that more and more of them are made, and that clone threads are made by these same individuals.

Literally, a small handful of people have overtaken and overrun this forum. You may think thats "cool" or "bitchin'" or whatever term you might use to discribe it, but I don't think it is any longer. There was a point where it was fine, but theres a point where it will become annoying.

This isn't an argument, an ultimatum, a threat, or anything like that. It is merely a kindly request
(not to Norm but to everyone involved) from one of your faithful, well meaning regular patrons to please cut down on these threads, please try and contain them to just a couple or a few, and please MODERATE yourselves! LOL. Seriously, these threads will be here tomorrow and the next day, and the day after that you don't need to nurse them.

Its so great to see this energy you have, but I don't feel its being channeled proportionately any longer.

Because my plea may fall on deaf ears, I would call upon the mods to at least hear me out and the situation I present. I'm not talking about censorship, thread deletions or even necessarily thread closures, since you folks aren't doing anything wrong and you are perfectly in the right for the most part. But this is getting out of hand...

And please none of this "its a hollowed tradition on this site". That may be, but not when it is occuring at this frequency. And if people start getting into their heads that this is "average" behavior on this site, or it's what is to be expected, or that this is what the general discussion forum is about, we are potentially making unnecessary sacrifices later.

I agree with Vlad that the General Discussions forum is becoming very difficult to navigate because of the massive amount of off-topic posting here over the last two or three weeks. It would help a lot if everyone could please try to keep the off-topic banter in one or two threads like this one or the Koopa-Hungarian thread.

I will look over some of the repetitively named threads and may merge some of them to keep the board more usable. Thanks in advance for your cooperation 🙂

Hey Guys,

I think that Vlad has a point here. There are plenty of other threads to make comments about Kimiko and what you think about her. Not trying to rain on your parade, I know she's a pretty exciting gal, and alot of fun. But there are people who probably come here to read things other than our silly jibes at one another. And if you actually want to learn more about Kimiko, you might try emailing her (with her consent of course). That's more personal anyways.

I always wanted to test by making a fake account and saying i was a 21 yr old female in "insert location" and like tickling, i guarentee that thread would bust all records....its just how things are

Alternatively, I suggested to the staff a spam forum that is seperated from the rest of the site (that way you monkeys can do what you want, within reason, without disturbing any other aspect of the site 😛). The idea has been proposed to TT by myself and the staff and we'll see how that goes.

So as to not demean or devalue legitimate post counts not caused by spam, I also motioned for post counts to be removed entirely to help control the spam.

Additional bandwidth consumption was also a concern I pondered on. It's really to be left to TT's judgement. Only he knows if he wants to pander to spam. Its clear some of you use this site as an outlet however, which is why I made the suggestion.

It may very well be better to just use chat rooms like AOL and yahoo, or stick to traditional PMs and e-mails.

Anything is better than what you guys are doing now. 😛

a TT chatroom is a very good idea! i often find myself wandering over to the TMF chatroom just to get the chatroom experience.

I would recommend that posts in any future "Silly Stuff" forum, if we create one, not count towards a member's post total, but that posts in all other areas be counted.

Yes. Its a good way of both acknowledging legitimate posts and keeping a leash on spam and reducing competition. 🙂

I might just be cranky, but I don't really see the point of separating out "silly post" counts from "legitimate" post counts. The post accounts just determine individual activity in my opinion, are they actually used for any other reason? I would still think that Admin and the moderators would look at the content of a persons contributions to the forum, before actually making them a moderator. The actual here isn't number of posts, it's number of threads filled with the same type of content as previous threads. So having one or two threads for the purpose of silly stuff is a good idea. People were having fun, and there is no reason for them not to continue to do so and no one should have to go into hiding over this. Just need to remember that other people use this forum too, and that we shouldn't interfere with their enjoyment either. As for post counts, I personally really don't care if someone wants to make a game out of seeing how many posts they came make in a night/week/month. Just as long as they don't interfere with other's enjoyment. Which comes to the other point, staying on topic of a thread. By the way I am guilty of this myself, but I think if we strived to stay on topic of a given thread we my find less problems arising. My two cents for the now, subject to change at a moments notice.
