I don't make too many posts on here, but this one just seemed too funny not to.
So, I'm an Apprentice Electrician, currently in school. I'm reading about random boring electrical things, when out of nowhere, I see the term "Tickler".....
I had to read it a few times to make sure that I wasn't seeing things.
It turns out that, in very simple terms, a "Tickler" is a wire jumper from one spot to another on an electrical meter.
Being the first person to reach this point of study, I mentioned it to some buddies (Including some very attractive women), and suddely it became a big topic of discussion around the class for a good half an hour.
Needless to say, it was a pretty interesting day.
Just had to share, thought everyone here could appreciate

Very amusing that "tickler" has a meaning in electronics. 😀

I'll have to check my Tickler file to see if the word has other vanilla uses. 😉 I had never heard the word used as an electrical term before. Thanks for an intersting post.

yeah i get uncomfortable when my boss says "yeah, just put that in your tickler file and call them later"

It is a reminder system to prompt you to do things in the future on/by given dates.

So Dave, that day did you "connect" any of those "tickler" circuits with those females??? 😉

Haha Bob, I wish man. I wish. Though, hearing them talk about it made my day just that much better!

Old British-made Motorcycles Too

Classic British motorcycles, with side-draft slide throttle carburetters*, used a type of "cold start device" that was also called a "tickler". This is simply a spring-loaded rod that, when depressed, manually pushes the float down and allows excess fuel to fill the float bowl and prime the intake tract. If the "tickler" is held down too long it will also flood the outside of the carburetter* and the crankcase below, and is therefore a fire hazard.

*British and Commonwealth spelling
