Rape-play video game banned by Amazon

I know how this is going to sound, but all of this rape/snuff "entertainment" seems to be Japanese, and anime-related.

The company which maintains the free graphical MMORPG, Rubies of Eventide, is now creating a soda called "Tentacle GRape" with a picture of tentacles reaching for a Japanese schoolgirl on the front of every bottle.

What is worse, being the world's biggest consume of this kind of trash (America), or the world's biggest producer?

I'm not sure... but if it wasn't there to consume in the first place...

As an adult gamer I am all for the more adult games like grand theft auto, gears of war 2 and the other games parents flip about. That being said, this game crosses so many lines I wouldn't know where to begin to count.

Perhaps what is most disturbing is someone had to have the idea for the game, pitch it to people, have numerous people work on it and then market it. All these people above had to think it was a good idea enough to make.

Of course this also means they thought people would buy it. What does that say about the world?

We need a "punch the creator of this game in the nuts" smiley....I could use that right about now....

I don't game, and I'm really curious about this ... There are also games out there that allow you to simulate murder. What's the difference between that and this rape game? I thought about the desensitization angle, but we as a society are desensitized to violence of all kinds, including violence against women. Maybe it's an issue of degree? Thoughts?

Don't ask me how I know this, but America is only the 3rd biggest consumer of porn per capita.

South Korea is #1 and Japan is #2.

Now, we are the world's biggest producer of porn, but only live action porn.

Anime porn is mostly made in Japan and Korea, since most anime in general is made between them.

Why the Japanese and Koreans have a taste for tentacle porn is beyond me, but you do have to remember that both of those countries are rather repressed sexually. They have more sexual innuendo on their TV than we do, but in everyday life, sexuality is very muted over there.

Generally speaking, the countries that are the most open about sexuality tend to have less porn, but on the flipside, they often have bigger problems with the spread of VDs.

I suppose there's a balance to be had somewhere in the middle, but yeah... "Rapelay" is taking porn a bit far....

If nothing else, Amazon probably wanted to keep from getting more negative publicity by providing this product. It's a smart move to drop it.

Good point. We do tend to be more hung up on the concept of rape than of murder.

This shows quite clearly in the differences between punishments for rape and murder. Depending on the degree, murder will often land a shorter sentence than rape.

A law student friend of mine once demonstrated a really sick principle to me concerning sex laws.

Apparently, you get less time for killing and then raping someone's corpse than you get for raping and then killing them. But, by the same token, you get less time for just killing them than if you rape and kill them, or if you just rape them.

In effect, the law apparently considers rape worse than necrophilia or murder that doesn't involve anything sexual in nature.

I know it's a really disturbing topic to discuss, but I think the peculiarities of our sex laws are probably somewhat the result of a lack of discussing these topics.

what the frig is rong with people the people that made this game should be shoot friggen sickos

Jeeez thats bloody obscene :sowrong:

As if society doesn't have enough negativity against women as it is, now this crap hits the market place.

What the hell is wrong with people, its bad enough that its gone through the marketing tool already to be available, now kids will probably play it and have their jollies against the image of women getting raped, how friggin sick.

I'm surprised that you're all so surprised by this. Rape porn is enormously successful; there's tons of it out there. A shitty video game for the same effect is an obvious next step - and this isn't the only rape video game.

Just walk away, condemnations don't do anybody any good. I find snuff porn horrifying, so I leave it alone. Still, there's tons of it out there.

As always, I apply my "you can do whatever you damn well please as long as it doesn't hurt anyone," philosophy.

Murder is over in a second, while rape translates into ongoing suffering. Some people are able to eventually come to grips with what happened to them; others are not, and for those in the latter group their families suffer along with them.

I'm not saying that I'd rather be murdered than raped, or that I'd rather see a loved one murdered than raped (I'm not particularly fond of any of the above ideas), but (at least to me) the idea of rape strikes me as somehow being more slimy and insidious.

Maybe motivation has something to do with it? Murder can have motivations that are very easily understandable to most people. Rape is typically motivated by deeply rooted psychological problems that most people don't like to think about.

I couldn't agree more. I've played many a violent video game over the years, but a rape simulator? Who comes up with something like that?

LOL 😀 😀 😀

I have GOT to get that game!

Seriously, it sounds like some good fun, although you have to be pretty sick to come up with these things I can see the humor in it.

😀 😀 😀

Bloody shame they banned it on amazon.

Before we all strain our necks looking down our noses from our high horses, I feel like I should point out that we, on this forum, frequently read stories about abduction and torture. Only a couple of weeks ago we were clamouring for that text-based game where you torture people against their will in some tickling corrective facility. And it was supplied.

You do have something of a point there.

I've played my fair share of hentai games, but i admit i've never been a big fan of the ones with rape in them. However, it is hard to find one that does not. It does seem to be a Japanese thing, but OMFG they have a CaramelDansen emotican! :carmeldansen:

Ok, back on topic. It does seem to be a Japanese thing at first glance, but as their products sell all over the world, it seems to not be just a japanese thing. They wouldn't sell if they didn't have buyers.

Exactly. I don't blame anyone for finding it distasteful, but if people want to indulge their dark desires in an animated little game, let them. Nobody is being hurt.

Shrug it off.

1) I've spoken out against non-consentual material, personally, as have a lot of other people.

2) I don't put being tickled against my will in the same category as being raped.

3) The subject is not a text-based fantasy game. I'm sure there are many of those out there with rape as the subject matter; there are, after all, rape fantasy sites. We're talking about something graphical that was being marketed to the general public.

I don't have an issue with rape fantasy sites. Well, okay, I *do*, but I don't waste my breath speaking out against them or putting them down. They're exclusive; they're not hiding behind a veneer of being "socially acceptable" in any fashion, there's no surprises if you're dumb enough to visit them while being offended by the idea of rape as entertainment and, most of all, there's no way they're ever going to go away as long as there's one financially well-off individual who's disturbed enough to be entertained by them.

If you're going to be that sick, twisted, or patently offensive, however, stay the fuck away from mainstream media and publicly available Websites. That includes Websites with restricted "sections" which are not overall geared towards (sick) adults alone.

Yikes. On a personal level, I do find the concept to be appauling. However, I must chime in with those here who’ve spoken in favor of free expression. Sorry folks, but the price of free expression is tolerating what we may personally find offensive, so long as no one’s rights are being violated. If you don’t like it, ignore it. Besides, it might not be a bad idea to provide people disturbed enough to find rape entertaining/desirable with a harmless, virtual means of alleviating their urges.

and this is the same society that frowns on overweight Americans....:seesaw:

I see what you're saying, but I think murder is almost always worse than rape.

I would argue our greater disgust for rape is indicative of deep-seated cultural issues concerning sexuality. Logically, murder is more detrimental to human life.
