I just wanted to post to recommend to all forum members that they should go see the newly released movie "Ray", about the life of singer Ray Charles. Actor Jamie Foxx gave a wonderful performance as Ray Charles, that in my opinion, deserves an Academy Award. He was backed up by a great supporting cast, and the music of course was excellent. Although Ray Charles had some fantastic songs, I cant exactly say that I listen to his music on a regular basis, as I do not own any of his CD's and such. However, I still appreciate what a fine musician he was, and Foxx portrayed him incredibly. "Ray" is a long movie, about 2 and half hours, but it is well worth the time and money spent, in my opinion. I highly recommend it.

I only wish Ray could have lived a little longer to hear that he's gained a whole new generation of fans thanks to that flick. I haven't seen the movie yet but it's on my 'to-do' list. His album "Modern Sounds In Country & Western Music" is a must for anyone interested in great music, period.

Although Ray didn't live to see the release of the movie, he was very involved in the making of "Ray", and working with Jamie Foxx.
And another highly recommended (and not too expensive) collection of Ray Charles music- "The Birth of Soul" box set. These are among the best songs he ever recorded, all done in the mid-50s.

Excellent point, Drew, and thank you for pointing that out, about the real Ray Charles involvement in the movie. In fact, before the film was released, Regal Cinemas showed a behind the scenes take of Jamie Foxx, and the real Ray Charles, together while discussing, and with Jamie Foxx doing work on, the movie. Clearly, the film's release date is appropriate as it serves as an immediate tribute to Ray Charles life, music, and legacy. I hope and suspect it will do very well at the box office. It deserves to, as it is quite simply, a brilliant film, with a stellar performance by Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles.

i intend on seeing it, as it looks pretty darn good, and i do like Ray Charles and his music.

i just don't generally care for Jamie Foxx.

Baron, I know we dont generally agree on politics. (Luckily in 2 days the election will probably be over) Trust me on this one, it was a great film. Even if you dont care for Jamie Foxx, his performance as Ray Charles and the music itself is something to be seen.

I rarely get to the theater, but being a huge music person, I ahd to see this mvie. I am not the world's biggest Jamie Foxx fan, but he was flat out unbelievable in this movie. I definatley feel he deserves a best actor nod. Not only did I believe he was blind, but he was also convincing when portraying the heroin addiction, not to mention showing the charisma and the performace skills that made Ray Charles such a beloved entertainer. I give this terrific movie a big thumbs up!

I'm glad you enjoyed the movie, Goatboy, and I couldnt agree more with what you said. It was an awesome film, and Foxx was masterful.
