Re: Strangeness about photobucket
Maybe I'm paranoid, but I have my system set up to tell me at once when anything starts to download in background.
Twice in the past two days, when I tried to look at a picture on the photobucket site, the site began an unauthorized background download of something unidentified.
When I hit the stop button on my browser, it was ignored on both occasions.
When I tried to close my browser, that command was ignored and the download continued, both times.
When I used control-alt-delete followed by close program, whatever was downloading ignored the order to close and kept downloading. Both times.
I tried hitting the power switch on the computer, and of course that didn't work either.
I finally had to PULL THE PLUG both times to stop that download.
I purposely do not upgrade to a high speed connection just so I have time to notice and interfere with unauthorized downloads.
If you have any kind of high speed or broadband connection, a download like that may go by so fast you don't even notice it.
If you have accessed photobucket for any reason lately, I strongly suggest sweeping your system for spyware.
After today's inceident, when I went back online my browser tries to default to photobucket, and I had to control-alt-delete close program out of it.
I then ran a spyware sweep and found several new spyware items, all of them created that day when I looked up their properties.
Photobucket is a dangerous site to visit.
I'm not saying stay away, just be aware,
