I have a little problem with my realplaer. I am jusing the plus edition of realplayer 8, but some clips (especially the mtp-clips) dosnt work for me! When I try to download a new codec he hangs up! What can I do?

same problem here. as yet nobody has helped me - not even real.com!!! someone better have a good idea. and fast. Grr or there will not be a very happy bunny in this forum.

Same here. I've had problems with Real player for a while on my computer and the RealPlayer Plus doesn't work either. I would love to do away with the .rm file period. Are there any alternatives?
CJ

a fix?

i have the same problems with realplayer too. One way i get around it is by saving my clips to my hard-drive then right-clicking it and going to the opinion, "Open with" or something like that and i open my rm's with window's media player now. maybe this will solve your problems, i don't know.

you could try to download the latest upgrade if you haven't already..realplayer one.I have also har troubles in the past with clips from mtp...never could figure out why,and nobody can explain it.

Same problem here too...

...and when I try to download the update, I am given a line of S**T and told to please try again later.

I am starting to think realplayer is not so damn real and or just another "player".😛 :sowrong:

TTD

Well, seems like some s**t over here as well

Yeah, I've got the same problem. I downloaded an Realplayer clip once (9 bloody mb's) and the image was just nothing more than a black screen. Damn that realplayer. Does anybody know how to fix this problem? It's not something that can be fixed by the stuff on the Realplayer itself, as I've tried every damned function on the f***ing thing...😡 :sowrong: :sowrong: 😡 😡

Grtz,

I found the same thing. Quite by accident, I discovered that I could play them if I was online at the same time. <shrug> Go figure!

Ann

so it appears that nobody has a clue then!!! btw dont get your hopes up too much at the earlier suggestion, as even after downloading and saving to hard disk, Windows Media Player (in its infinte wisdom) does not support .ram or .rm files.
I dont really relish the idea of paying yet another $20 for RealOne when I did exactly the same with Realplayer 8 and it didnt work. I am not a very happy bunny!
Can some technical super boffin type genius with an IQ of 1 zillion please tell us how to get the Magic Touch clips to work in Realplayer?

I've had a simular problem and one work around I found was to open realplayer click on file then open, then select the file that you want.
Also update realplayer, there was an update for it that supposed to solve these problems

Yup. Tried that too. But none of us can get the update any more cos theyve started selling RealOne. When we tried to download the update it just said could not cantact the server etc...
Keep the suggestions coming though!

Quick questions:

What type of operating systems are you all on?

For those of you who have already re-installed the latest realplayer, what is the realplayer doing when you try to play a video that's on your computer?

Does it give any specific error message?

Either email me, or post here and we'll try to figure it out!

Thanks,
Steve

I cant speak for anyone else but Im using Win 98, full version of Realplayer 8 plus, and have no bugs/viruses/hardware or software clashes.
Its mostly the magic touch clips. It doesnt matter how you try to open the file, it immediatley springs up with a message saying
"Realplayer needs new software to be able to play this clip" click ok "Contacting Real Networks for software. Please wait"
5 minutes later it comes up saying "Unable to contact Real Networks, the server may be down or busy. Please try again later"

This may not be the exact message but words to that effect anyway. I have found that only one clip works is For You#4 Randy 2. Awesome clip.
I dont normally go in for bribery or gratuitous advertising, but Steve - you come up with the solution and you have a customer for life. Extremetickling.com is well worth every cent of the tiny membership fee and if you arent already joined up YOU ARE A FOOL!

From the Real Player help guide:

Troubleshooting "Cannot connect to server" Errors in RealPlayer G2, 7, and 8
When using RealPlayer G2, 7, or 8, you may receive one of the following errors:

"Cannot connect to server"
"Unable to connect to server"
"Unable to establish connection to server"
"Check network transport settings or run auto-configure"
"The RealPlayer was not able to successfully connect to a server for playback"
"Cannot connect to server, the link you requested may be inaccurate or out of date"
These problems are often the result of a configuration problem in RealPlayer or a connection issue. Reconfiguring RealPlayer or troubleshooting your Internet connection can solve most instances of these problems.

Solutions
Do one or more of the following:

Solution 1
You may receive the error message "Cannot connect to server, the link you requested may be inaccurate or out of date" when you try to access content that has been removed from the Internet by the content provider. If you can access other media links (content) on a site, this is most likely the cause of the problem. Please report the problem to the site administrator.

Although we monitor the default content links within the current RealPlayer version, individual content providers can remove content at any time. If you notice missing content in Channels, Live Stations, Radio Tuner, or Take5, please report the problem to RealNetworks using the feedback form at the following location:

http://realguide.real.com/info/?page=fbform
Solution 2
When trying to use the RealPlayer AutoUpdate feature (Help > Check for Update), you may receive an "Unable to establish connection to server" error message.

To correct this problem, try using the AutoUpdate feature at an alternate time during the day. This problem typically occurs during "peak hours" when network traffic is highest.

Solution 3
When you click a Link, a Channel or a Preset, you receive "Unable to connect to server" or "Check network transport settings or run auto-configure" errors.

To correct this problem, use the RealPlayer AutoConfigure feature before attempting to play content:

RealPlayer G2:

Start RealPlayer G2.
Click the Option menu and choose Preferences.
Click the Transport tab.
Click "Automatically select best transport".
Click the Auto Configure button.
Click the OK button in the following dialog window.
RealPlayer 7 & 8:

Start RealPlayer 7 or 8.
Click the View menu and choose Preferences.
Click the Transport tab.
Click "Automatically select best transport".
Click the Auto Configure button.
Click the OK button in the following dialog window.
Once AutoConfigure is complete, RealPlayer will use the most efficient network transport method for your Internet connection.
Solution 4
If you receive an error message about a network firewall when you try to play content with RealPlayer, or if you are unsure if a network firewall is preventing you from playing content, check with your Network Manager or Internet Service Provider (ISP).

For instructions on configuring RealPlayer to work with a network firewall, visit the following RealNetworks web page:

http://service.real.com/firewall/
Note: If you are connecting to the Internet via AOL, MSN, EarthLink, Sympatico, MindSpring, Netcom, Sprynet, CompuServe, Prodigy Internet, or another common ISP, you should not need to configure RealPlayer for use with a firewall.

Solution 5
If you receive a "Cannot connect to server" error after you click a link on a web page, the delivery protocol for the content may be configured incorrectly.

As a workaround, try setting the RealPlayer transport method to HTTP Only:

RealPlayer G2:

Start RealPlayer G2.
Click the Option menu and choose Preferences.
Click the Transport tab.
Click "Use Specified Transports".
Click the RTSP Settings button, then click "HTTP Only".
Click OK.
Click the PNA Settings button, then click "HTTP Only".
Click OK, then click OK again.
RealPlayer 7 & 8:

Start RealPlayer 7 or 8.
Click the View menu and choose Preferences.
Click the Transport tab.
Click "Use Specified Transports".
Click the RTSP Settings button, then click "HTTP Only".
Click OK.
Click the PNA Settings button, then click "HTTP Only".
Click OK, then click OK again.
Solution 6
When you use RealPlayer while connected to America Online (AOL), you may receive one of the following errors:

"Unable to connect to the server"
"Cannot connect to server"
These errors typically happen for one of the following reasons:

AOL has an "idle timer" feature that automatically disconnects you if you have not used your computer while connected to AOL for a predetermined amount of time. You will receive a "Cannot connect to server" error message if AOL has terminated your connection and you try to access the Internet with RealPlayer.
If this occurs, you must reconnect to AOL. Once you have reconnected to AOL, you can access content with RealPlayer.

When you install RealPlayer and use AOL 4.0 or 5.0 to connect to the Internet, RealPlayer may configure itself to use your web browser's HTTP proxy settings.
As a workaround for this problem, reconfigure RealPlayer so it does not use the HTTP proxy settings.

RealPlayer G2:

Start RealPlayer G2.
Click the Option menu and choose Preferences.
Click the Proxy tab.
Select the "No HTTP Proxy" check box in the HTTP Options section.
Click OK.
Restart RealPlayer.
RealPlayer 7 & 8:

Start RealPlayer 7 or 8.
Click the View menu and choose Preferences.
Click the Proxy tab.
Click the "No HTTP Proxy" check box in the HTTP Options section.
Click OK.
Restart RealPlayer.

Some AOL access levels prohibit RealPlayer from connecting to content for playback. If your screen name has restricted access levels (i.e., Parental Controls), you must remove access restrictions on the affected AOL screen name.
To change the AOL Parental Control settings:

Start AOL.
Click the "My AOL" menu and choose "Screen Names".
Click Edit Parental Controls Settings in the Parental Controls section of the AOL Screen Names dialog box.
Select the Screen Name you want to change.
Click the General Access (18+) button and click Accept New Category.
Click OK.
The Parental Controls feature allows parents to assign specific levels of access to each screen name, or edit existing settings on AOL. For more information on AOL parental controls, visit the following web site:

http://www.aol.com/info/parentcontrol.html
Solution 7
Using MindSpring as your Internet Service Provider with Windows 95 or Windows 98, you constantly receive the "Cannot connect to server" error.

The current MindSpring NTSI Winsock is incompatible with RealPlayer. To solve this problem, you must install Windows Dial Up Networking (DUN) and reinstall RealPlayer.

The MindSpring installer attempts to configure DUN on your system, however, you may need to configure DUN manually.

To configure DUN manually, refer to the instructions in the "How to setup Win95 Dialup Networking (DUN)" support document on the following MindSpring web page:

http://help.mindspring.com/modules/t0000/t0015.htm
DUN replaces the MindSpring access panel.

When connecting to the Internet through MindSpring, you can access Netscape, MS Internet Explorer, Eudora, etc. through DUN. MindSpring provides extensive technical support and help pages though their site at the following location:

http://www.mindspring.com/

There is still a realplayerone free download on the real site, but you have to do some searching on the middle bars and on the right hand side to find it.

like someone mentioned earlier - it is not a problem that can be fixed by using any of the functions on the Realplayer itself cos i have also tried EVERYTHING!
the exact messages are as follows;
Realplayer needs to download new software to play this clip; ok cancel
Please wait while Realplayer Plus contacts RealNetworks for the software; cancel
RealPlayer cannot contact the RealNetworks autoupdate server. Please try again later; ok

It doesnt matter what time of day this is tried, or what fiddling about with the options you try, like someone from Liverpool it flatly refuses to work!!!

Real Plater correction

This will correct the real player problem. Go to Yahoo Search:"Free download Codec DivX412". You will be taken directly to the DivX codec.
Once you download this new Codec, your problems will be solved. It is also a good idea to get Download Accelerator Plus (DAP).It is free and you can download 300% faster if using a dial-up connection. www.downloadaccelerator.com
Once you loaded the program, Go to the top and click "Downloads"
GO to "Options/Configurations"
On the bottom you will see a box filled with file extentions. EXE ZIP ARJ and so on. select a spot in that box to type: RM MPG AVI MOV MPEG
*Be sure to space each file extention* Once you add these file extentions, click Close. Walla!!! you are in business.
Using dap is the best. You can even pre select the folder you want to save in. When you click to download.......save target as...DAP will operate automatically, conduct tests, and download your file in minutes, sometimes seconds.I LOVE DAP!!!!
Stiff Feather God

me again. probably being reeeeal stupid but...
just downloaded the exact codec in the exact way you said. but when I click at the top, there is no download tab. i click on the menu button and get open, open url, recent files, loop, always on top, playback, options, skin browser etc...
where is the part ur talking about?

youre not alone Jon, i cant find how to add .rm files either. and i looked through all the settings 😕

i think that there are a lot of people out there with the sole intention of confusing the hell out of simple folk like me!
Next suggestion then? Much appreciated efforts btw folks..
