Today I saw one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life. "Garden State". The only thing tolerable about the movie was bathingsuit and barefoot shots of the lovely Ms Natalie Portman. Other than that, this was (In my opinion) one of the worst movies I have ever sat through.
"Garden State" is the somber, and rather disjointed story of a young man who returns home to New Jersey following his mother's accidental death. While it appears that the premise for the movie might have been for the young man to reconnect with his estranged family, and to work out his troublesome relationship with his father, the film instead turns out to be a drug loaded haze of muddle with scenes apparently leading to nowhere. While our main character does manage to have sex with the lovely Natalie, even the romance part does a fizzle with no clear tying up (No bondage pun intended) of the premise of the story.
So, in short, if anyone was intending to see this film, my advice is to pass on it, or, at best, if you feel you must see it, wait until video or pay per view as it is not, in my opinion, worth the 6, 8 or 10 dollars American, (Or any amount of any currency, of course) it will cost you to get into see this movie.
Has anyone else seen this movie? What is your opinion? I see many movies through the year, and rarely do I feel so harsh toward a movie. Usually I will either like a movie, feeling it entertaining, or at least worthy of a 5 or 7 dollar expense, and my 90 minutes to 2 hours. With this one, I did something that I rarely do, I fell assleep for part of the movie. Iam very interested to hear feedback from anyone who saw Garden State. Thanks.

Nope, haven't seen it but your post led me to 'google' it:

"Whimsical, romantic, funny and surprisingly moving, "Garden State" is the kind of movie that reminds you why you love movies so much, a film so filled with unexpected energy and ambition and sly intelligence it gives you hope for the future."

"Garden State is a great movie, full of bizarre wit and winning moments, laden with excellent performances and even a few good-natured morals. It recalls the great "early" rom-coms of Woody Allen or Rob Reiner; it showcases Zach Braff and Natalie Portman as two entirely lovable personalities; it gives the fantastic Peter Sarsgaard and the wonderful Ian Holm a few choice scenes to steal. Garden State has a warm heart and an acerbic disposition. It's romantic and nostalgic and periodically quite weird "

If it's really the dog you think it is, it'll show up on HBO or Showtime for free (sic) in six months or so. Thanks for the heads up !

yeah yeah I know, I have way too much time on my hands....

Okay, so those critics liked it and I didnt. Has happened before, and also has been reversed. There were a couple of movies, most notably "Intersection" with Richard Gere, that were panned by the critics but which I enjoyed. Iam only one man, and so are they. Perhaps people should decide for themselves. I was only giving my opinion.

I loved it. Funny and touching without getting bogged down in pretentiousness, and great performances from the three leads (Skarsgaard quietly becoming a real go-to supporting actor these days)

Didn't mean to make you mad Mitchell. Those were the first Googles I found for that movie, all the rest were for the state of New Jersey (the Garden State).
The movie critic business is politicized and palms get greased. Their opinion is no better than ours and they probably sleep through half the movies they're forced to watch.

I wasnt mad. I merely meant that I didnt want it to look like I was influencing people not to see it. My opinion of it was that it was bad, and if a friend asked me whether it was worth seeing, I'd say no. Each person has his/her own opinion, and should decide for themselves as with anything else based on what they hear, whether the movie is worth their time and money to see.
