I've collected a few things I want to contribute, but it looks like I need a Web file host that allows direct linking, and cheap ones seem to be few and far between (for obvious reasons). Does anyone have any they can recommend? Do I really have to pay $20 a month somewhere to be able to post a handful of pics? Thanks.

Boomspeed.com definitely. $6 bucks a month'll get you 100 megabytes of space that you can do whatever you want with.
If you want a free source, try Villagephotos.com. They only give you 20 megabytes of space and 5 megabytes of daily bandwidth, but you can use it for whatever as well. BUT you can't load anything over 100kb into it without paying for something.
