I see on the wire...sorry, the web...that Fox is planning to remake "The Omen." Fine and dandy, more power to them. I don't detest remakes on principle; I've enjoyed some, I'm looking forward to others ("Have you ever heard of...Kong?"), but I got to wondering if anything is sacred. What do you think are the movies, if any, which will remain untouchable? The only one I'd put any money on is "Citizen Kane."

I'd say David Lynch's Eraserhead is unremakeable in any successful way. It's far too personal a vision.

The Blair Witch Project and Bunuel's Un Chien Andalou (experimental films generally) are probably one-off as well. The atmosphere of suprise simply can't be replicated.

My vote is for 2001: A Space Oddysey. Another one that had so much of Stanley Kubrick's personal vision in it, it could never be duplicated.

However, OTOH, a remake may actually make more sense... 😛

Spaceballs 😀

But then...I dont think anyone's ever remade a spoof.

These days, I doubt ANYTHING is not-remakeable....showing the true lack of talent in Hollyweird these days

(SIGH!) You may be right. I started to suggest that films centered on the unique talents of a single performer like Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton might be safe from meddling. But then I realized that, if I had said that a year ago, I would have included "The Pink Panther" in this category. Now we've got Steve Martin suiting up as Inspector Clouseau! (I like and admire Steve, but he has got this thing about trying to fill big shoes, taking on roles made famous by Spencer Tracy, Marlon Brando, Jose Ferrer, Jack Lemmon, and now Peter Sellers.)

The Evil Dead Trilogy

In fact, they're planning to make a remake of "Evil Dead 1 & 2" quite soon. Come on guys... We want "Evil Dead 4", not any silly remake without Bruce Campbell.

Thank you for your opinion, because it's true, but you never know, Sam Raimi might make an "Evil Dead 4" after he's through with his Spider-Man movies.

After Gus Van Sant's Psycho,I wonder if anything is completely remake-proof.

Pink Floyd's The Wall....

And why oh why didn't they leave The Crow alone!?!?!?....

Yeah, Pauly Shore In Citizen Kane, *pukes*

WHEN THEY REMADE( ie raped, folded, spindled and mutilated) MR. S. A. O'FEERNA'S ( AKA JOHN FORD) STAGECOACH(1939) IN 1967, I NEARLY DIED. LIKE PUTTING A CHARTREUSE MOHAWK ON THE MONA LISA, OR SHOES ON NESS OR CAMEL I AGREE THAT CASABLANCA AND CITIZEN KANE ARE PROBABLY(HOPEFULLY) SAFE. EVEN GWTW HAD A 'SEQUEL" MORE LIKE NYQUIL IN EFFECT. THE ONLY GOOD THING IS THAT THESE TRAVESTIES MAKE YOU APPRECIATE THE REAL THING EVEN MORE. KINDA LIKE MAKING OUT WITH OL' GT, AIN'T IT?!?! WAAAAAAH!!

GT, I agree with your assessment of the "Stagecoach" remake, but I have to say I loved it when it came out in '67. I was thirteen, had never seen the original (old movies were not as ubiquitous on television then as now), and a two-hour big-screen eyeful of Ann-Margret was just what the doctor ordered for this pubescent little Texan. My previous crush had been Hayley Mills, so you can imagine the quantum leap my life took then.
