Rolling Stones Guitarist Keith Richards Slams David Bowie

Let's compare our two rockers-in-question:

Keith Richards: was influenced by Chuck Berry/Muddy Waters/Bo Diddley, stayed with same rock band until present. Always played Rolling Stones tunes no matter what side project he was involved in. Also got involved in projects with George Jones, Les Paul, and countless other legends in music.

David Bowie: spent the entire 1970s changing his persona with different characters(Ziggy Stardust, The Thin White Duke, etc.) In the mid 1980s announced he was forming a band called Tin Machine(???) and would never be playing any of his hits ever again. This, after announcing his "retirement" in 1973.(again, ??????) Bowie eventually would play some of his hits again(wonder why?) and hasn't been heard from in the last 10 years.

Again.............gotta go with Keith.

The spat didn't affect my opinion of either of them. I've always thought David Bowie was a mediocre looney tune.

Keith and the Stones have a ways to go before they reach that level with me...I "grew up" with the stones as they jumped in on the Beatles banwagon only they never quite did it as far as I was concerned...there are probably about 3 songs of theirs that I would actually listen to all the way through...

The Beatles are completely overrated. They're a great band, sure, but they're not gods. The Rolling Stones have always been a great rock band. They didn't try to be anything else. They didn't throw glitter around or sing about fucking space travel. Whether I was alive or not during the time I don't think matters. Or maybe it wouldn't matter if I was agreeing with the topic of this thread lol.

No sweetie it doesnt matter when you first heard them. We all form our opinions as we hear bands for the first time. The Beatles changed the world of music. They changed a lot. They are not overated in any way, I just find and have always found the Stones to be quite boring is all...to me not a great rock band at all... Hey But then I always thought elvis kinda sucked too...so there ya go..

My opinion is mine and I am not trying to change anyone elses.....:innocent:

I think the beatles are a great band, but the way people seem to worship them kinda freaks me out.

That's how it was with them from the begining..they were new and exciting and different....It kinda stuck with a lot of folks.....all bands have their fanatical followers...

I don't know about the glitter, lol... but the fascination with space travel at the time may have had something to do with the moon landing :abducted:

I had a couple Beatles 8-tracks in my teens, liked the songs but at the time didn't think they were anything special. 30 years later I believe they are in a class with the greatest musicians of the last century.(Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Hank Williams, Ray Charles, Miles Davis, etc.) Their music is even more relevant today than ever.

True... but that could be said for any obscenely popular band -- the Stones included.

Some people just get caught up in celebrity too much.

When you talk about The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, you're talking about the two bands that shaped the course of rock music for decades to come. David Bowie, while extremely talented, came nowhere near this level of historical legend.

I don't agree with Richards' comments, and I do agree he does look like death warmed over, but he's earned his seat in the halls of the greatest.

I like the Rolling Stones, but Keith Richards is a douche. At least Bowie and Mick Jagger get along.

Lol!!! That's right, they sure did.

Sure, but I think everyone will agree that it's not to the same level as "Beatlemania."

I'm not sure exactly why Keith would say such things. While my favourite is Davib Bowie, without a doubt, i can't ignore the role Keith has played in the music industry. Still, I believe Bowie is the better artist.

Ya know, when that song came out in the 80s, I don't think there was anything on the radio that pissed me off more than David Bowie shouting "SOUTH AMERICAAAAAAAAA!!!!"

LOL!!!! :jester:

I think I was in first or second grade when that song came out so I was probably too busy playing with Barbie and friends to care. 😛

Rumor has it that Bowie likes clams though. I'd be careful. :flatstare:

I'm pretty sure David Bowie is a vegan and subsists mainly on swamp moss and tree bark. So The Giant Clam has no need to worry.

Keith on the other hand will eat you raw..........or smoke you in a pipe...

You know every time I watch that video it really makes me wonder if those two really did have sex together like Angie said? Especially when their cheeks are touching.

Oh they've definitely banged. It was probably really hot too. I'm not gay, but I'd totally watch that porno.
