According to prowrestling.com
this was not just part of the smackdown storyline:

farooq (ron simmons) was fired from wwe. Another wrestler lost. Do you guys think the apa need to be split up or do you guys like the whole beer, babes, and nascar racing thing?

Personally, i dont think their the best tag team. I like their personalities. We dont see these guys on the mic at all anymore. Furthermore, ron simmons and bradsaw were very much involved in the war against iraq and supporting the troops.

Simmons By The Way..

Is a classy guy.
I'll point this out though,,, He's another wrstler who didn't make in the NFL...

Still he's all class.

Tron

I think he studied at the University of Miami and played on the Team.

a sad situation, I hate the fact that i won't see him again. he was one of wwe's top guys, who never got enough credit.

It was FSU....I've been a fan of Ron since his high school football days here in Georgia....one of the greatest high school players I've ever seen.

Here's a bio piece on Ron I found on the FSU football website.

Ron Simmons
No. 50 - Noseguard

When he signed out of Warner Robins High School in Georgia, he was one of Florida State's greatest recruiting victories. Midway through his freshman season, Coach Bowden said, "Simmons is turning the program around."

In 1977 he was the difference in his first game at FSU. Following the 1977 game against North Texas State he was the national lineman of the week.
Simmons made his jersey number 50 famous. He was ABC-TV player of the game four times and Football News freshman defensive lineman of the year.

In 1979 and 1980 Simmons was consensus All-American and in 1980 a Lombardi Award finalist and captain of the Seminoles. This powerful middle guard led FSU to the top of the polls, into two Orange Bowls and a Tangerine Bowl and to four consecutive victories over Florida.

Simmons went on to play for the USFL's Tampa Bay Bandits and currently reigns as a top professional wrestler.

On a personal note....I really hate to hear about Ron's firing...he was one of my favorites in the WWE (and the WCW before it's demise) 🙁

damn, another good one gone

i wonder why he was fired?
could it have anything to do with the up comming lottery?
i liked farooq, and apa. it bothered me when they were split up a couple years ago, and i actually cheered when they got back together.
bradshaw has been highly instrumental in all the iraq visits, but i didn't know mr simons was involved too😕

Seems like a lot Football players keep professional wrestling as a backup job.

florida state university-thanks KoocheeKoo

i dont know why he was fired, but im sure we will find the details. Its probably some lame excuse that the wwe officials had.

From what I've read, he was fired because of "inappropriate behavior" during the post-WMXX celebration. I think that was pretty much an excuse, though -- he was close to retirement, and he'd missed a lot of ring time lately taking care of his wife, who was very ill.

It's worth noting that Simmons also, as far as I know, had the distinction of being the first black world champion (WCW, 1992).

I remember that. He beat Big Van Vader, didn't he? His victory was like Sidney Poitier winning an Oscar, only in the wrestling sense. Anyway, what did he do get himself fired?

I don't know why he was technically fired, but plot-wise he was fired on the show for something he said to Heyman. Heyman said something along the lines of "what, do you think I'm a joke?!" and Ron said "well...yes." Bradshaw was also there and he sort of chuckled to the idea. This was all due to the Smackdown roster turning their back on Heyman two weeks ago when they allowed Austin to walk right by them (out of respect) when Heyman was demanding unity and ordered everyone earlier to stop Austin and send a messege to RAW. Heyman was just on a power trip, and he paid for it when Austin got his hands on him and Lesnar.

Its this that Ron thought was funny, when Heyman walked by the APA in the halls. He stopped to ask them why they didn't back him up and this and that. Heyman consquentially put them in a title match for the tag team championship. The stipulation was that if the APA didn't win this match and become the champs then they were fired. They put on a pretty good match, both pulling it up a notch and almost winning on several occasions, but Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty won and retained their title belts.

Almost immediately after the APA went into Heyman's office to ask him what he was going to do now, and that they wanted him to tell them they were fired right to their faces. Thats what Bradshaw said.

Heyman then pulled the rug from underneath them by saying he didn't mean the APA was fired, he meant that Simmons was fired. Heyman then gave Bradshaw the choice of staying with Smackdown (and essentially him) or not betraying his friendship with Ron and quitting alongside with his being fired.

Heyman then made some points for Bradshaw to consider. Such as his books, his out-of-ring-career/appearances, etc, and then to top it off he said pretty much something like "how much longer are you going to allow this dead weight (Simmons)to weigh you down?"

Heyman then left his office and Ron basically told Bradshaw to just forget him, and that they should leave. Bradshaw just stood there with a conflicted look on his face, and Ron knew what it meant. And then Ron said something along the lines of "well I'll be damned...after all these years...after all these years."

They later showed Ron leaving into the parking lot to his car and Bradshaw was trying to explain why this was too hard a decision to make and that basically "I can't just give all this up because you said something stupid."

Ron just kept walking to his car and didn't answer when Bradshaw asked "we're still friends at least, right?!"

Obviously Bradshaw probally really hated to have to make a decision like that, and both he and Ron had the carpet pulled from under them because of Heyman's "stress".

However, all was almost made well when the Undertaker came out and Tombstoned Heyman at the end of the show. That was the best Tombstone I've seen in a long time! Perfectly executed, clean and swift. Its good to have the deadman back! 😀

Although on Monday Vince will be having that lottery draft on RAW, and the entire roster will be split up again. So who knows what this means for Ron Simmons as well as everyone else.

Triple H is going to have a hard time getting back into contendership without Evolution behind him (assuming they get split up which they probably will, in which case Hunter will become a face again and will have to work his way up the latter again or take advantage of an opportunity when it presents itself).

I'm also wondering which show the Undertaker will end up on. I think he should remain on Smackdown, and they should bring Kane over to Smackdown as well so they can continue their feud until its over. To be fair, the Big Show can go to RAW.

I hope both RAW and Smackdown traded fairly and for what is in the best interests of both shows (since we know its not a real draft and the decision has already been made).

Perhaps now that the APA is split up (for the time being) Farooq will turn heel on Bradshaw or something (if he's really not fired). A rivalry between them might be what Smackdown or RAW needs to spice things up.

I also think we need a fair diva exchange. RAW has the divas and Smackdown has the cruiserweights. I think things should be more balanced rather than exclusive.

from the info i heard,he was fired due to is drug addictions he failed to address and conquer over the past few years and his "tantrum" he threw during wrestlemania.Apparently he wanted a limo to take him to the garden from his hotel and mgmt arranged shuttle buses for the wrestlers to be taken to and and from the arena. This was unacceptable to him and he was furious. The later is a lame excuse to fire a long time employee as he was but the drug issue was probably the real reason.....from what i'm hearing

Now thats just a shame. I didn't know he was a recovering addict. 🙁

Though I like him as a person and his personality in the business, I can't exactly say he was/is an extremely good wrestler, and his performances were getting worse each night as time went on. Its almost as if he wasn't putting any effort into his career but wanted the perks that come along with it. Its just a shame it had to end this way. I'd be more comfortable with his dismissal if it was because of his performance in the ring rather than his past drug problems. Though firing him for the drugs is a legitmate excuse. 🙁
