The Spanish Crown Prince Felipe de Asturia and TV reporter Letizia Ortìz celebrated a glamorous wedding today, in the Spanish capital Madrid. The prince was the first Spanish royal who was allowed to marry a woman of "common" descent without giving up his right to the throne. Practically all European monarchs and many Heads of States attended the ceremony. Because of the recent terrorist attack in Madrid, the celebration was suitably subdued.
The bride arrived 15 minutes late in church: Because of a sudden downpour, she couldn't walk the 160 yards from the palace to the cathedral, but had to be chauffeured in a Rolls Royce.
For security reasons, soldiers of the Royal Guard had to undergo a training as waiters for the wedding feast, as no outside staff was allowed access.
Four main German TV channels broadcast the ceremony and the following parade through Madrid, live and simultaneously. Here's the Picture of the Day:
