Pink Floyd member Richard Wright dies at age 65
By The Associated Press

A Pink Floyd spokesman says founding member Richard Wright has died. He was 65.

Wright died Monday after a battle with cancer at his home in Britain. His family did not want to give more details about his death. The spokesman is Doug Wright, who is not related to the artist.

Richard Wright met Pink Floyd members Roger Waters and Nick Mason at college and joined their early band Sigma 6.

Sigma 6 eventually became Pink Floyd and Wright wrote and sang some of the band's key songs. He wrote "The Great Gig In The Sky" and "Us And Them" from Pink Floyd's 1973 "The Dark Side Of The Moon."

He left the group in the early 1980s to form his own band but rejoined Pink Floyd for their 1987 album "A Momentary Lapse of Reason."

Sad day...

At least Roger came back for one last show...

I always liked Wright's vocals, even though he didn't take the lead too often. Wright's vocals featured prominently in two of my favorite Floyd songs: Matilda Mother and Paint Box.

Wright and Nick Mason almost always were forgotten men when you read of Pink Floyd's history. They deserved as much credit as Waters, Barrett and Gilmour for the band's success. I'm sure Gilmour would agree with that. Waters is another matter.

RIP RW...

I remember my friend Willie coming over to my place in 73 and saying Vince you gotta listen to this. So we light up a joint between the two of us and he puts this record on the turn table (we had those in those days).

There were all these strange sound effects going from one speaker to the other and all the sudden we hear what turns out to be the song 'Breath' and well both our minds are totally blown. I could not believe what I was hearing!!

Well 'Dark Side of The Moon' went on to be one of the greatest selling albums of all time a sort of classic rock stable and made Pink Flöyd a super group. Though it was the late Sid Barrett and later Roger Waters who were the creative forces being the group Rick Wright was always there. A musical powerhouse to be dealt with. He was simply a member of one of the greatest rock bands ever and that alone is enough!!

Very sad news, indeed 🙁 Richard I always felt was the key cog that made the Floyd as unique as they were.... the band would never be the same without his influence and progressive experimentation.

Rest in peace, Richard.... you will be missed!

I'm just happy the four of them got back together for Live 8 a few years back..... it was a magical moment in the history of a band that won't ever be duplicated.
