Now I'm not talking about crap like Scream and Friday the 13th. That shit wasn't really all that scary. I'm talking about really creepy shit.

My all time is Poltergeist. I know what you're saying, "How can you diss Jason and praise that schlock in the same breath?" I'm sorry, but that movie, from start to finish, is pure terror for me.

Another one is a little more recent: "The Motrhman Prophesies." If you haven't seen this film, do so. It is excellent, and I promise you, it is haunting... I have chills running up my spine just thinknig of the last scene. Does anyone know: The film is presented in such a way that the film is based on actual events. I have never heard of the Mothman, anyone? Or is it Blair Witch-type crap?

Let's hear yours'

Are we doing this again?

Well, though I never actually seen the movie, the t.v. preview for the film "Suspiria" scared the sh*t out of me when I was a kid.

As far as films, the first "Nightmare on Elm Street" was pretty effective, as was the original "Carrie"

The movie that scared me the most (because it was real) was "Freaks" made in 1932 by Tod Browning for MGM.

The reason that I couldn't sleep after seeing the film was, again, that the freaks in the film were all real, not actors wearing make-up. They were hired from a circus sideshow. Somehow, fake special effects and actors in make-up just don't scare me.

"Freaks" is an absolute classic, Milagros! I saw it in my mid-20s and agree it was definetly creepy cause of the authentic freaks in it. What was that mantra they keep repeating?
"Gooble Gobble, One of Us"....or "We accept you"....or some damn thing.

Drew

Guys, I never saw "Freaks", but I am familiar with it. I've ben looking for it for years, haven't found it on video... does it even exist? (the video, I know the film exists!)

Drew, I think the mantra was "one of us". I think I saw a parody on the Simpsons... the best show on television...

(Sorry, was this thread done already? I must've missed it)

I think you can find "Freaks" on dvd, Phat. And I agree about "The Simpsons", that show is absolute genius.

Funny you should mention the old horror flick "Suspiria." I remember seeing those previews when I was a kid too. They'd show them some after 11:30 pm., and I did see the movie a long time ago. It was one of the first gory films that I ever saw. All I can remember is that we all liked it and were kind of freaked out by it at the time. The plot had something to do with a coven of witches, and the word Suspira actually means fear.

Others horror movies which I think were geuninely scary are the following: The Exorcist; Halloween; The Shining; Blair Witch Project Part 2; The Dunwhich Horror; Scream Blackula, Scream; Nighmare On Elm Street.

The Mummmy gave me the creeps, but I'm not sure if I'd call it scary.

Halloween was scary enough for me!!! But then again this wonder woman really scares very easily, I don't do horror flicks well especially if there is gorey (sp?) scenes in them, I usually end up with my head in someones arm!!! LOL

i fell asleep during "mothman.."

and poltergist had me scratching my head?
for scarry movies, i'd suggest "count yorga, vampire" and it's sequals. i saw those as a kid in the 60's, and 70's, and those were some scarry movies!

how about jeepers creepers?! half the movie audience left that one! (no exageration) screaming, jumping, and running up the isles, lol.
i even jumped a couple times during it.

and the original holloween, was a good spooker.

Kiss The Girls

Because you know there's some nutcase out there who might really try what happened in that movie.

I remember I caught the "Suspiria" preview at 5:30 am before doing a paper route, BigBrownEyes. I thought "Well, here's a nice Clairol ad of a cute woman combing her hair from the back".
Of coarse when she turned to face the camera, I had no idea the face would be a SKULL!
😱 😱 😱

"Michael Jackson vs Donnie Osmond...a Tale of Two Questions".😀

Seriously...I was brought up on horror movies. Loved any and all of them. Drove my mom and friends crazy with them.
The ONLY movie, back then, not now, that spooked me for weeks was "The Exorcist". Looking back on it now, I wonder why it did.

I've been desensitized by horror movies..i can remember watching them forever. The only 2 i can think of that were remotely scarely were the excorsist and the Omen. I was pretty young when i saw them both. Also even though its not a movie i remember watching the night stalker as a child..i loved that show. Watching them now they are kind of campy, but back then it was awesome.

Definitely a thread to my liking...I love being scared...so I love scary movies....I know u asked for the scariest but I cannot possibly just list one...I will shamelessly list every scary movie I love and prepare for ur admonishment🙂 here goes...
The Anityville Horror pts 1 and 2

Halloween (only pt 1)

The Omen (all parts) soundtrack is incredibly scary as well

The Exorcist (the original before the added junk....the one scene that had such redeeming quality was the spider-walk scene, now when u see this in the cdeleted scenes on the original movie it kicked ass but when they actually added it to the new version it was pure cheese....

The Exorcist 3 (tried pt 2 but I just wanted the two hours of my life back)

Black Sabbath starring Boris Karlof

The Blair witch 1 (when I saw it I but now no real replay value)

The Blair witch 2

The Ring had potential but left me disappointed for the most part...(most redeeming quality was the video in the movie, was scary as hell)

The night of the living dead (blk and wht version, original)

never saw jeepers creepers or suspiria...🙁

:wow: :wow:

Jeepers Creepers..

Was excellent. I jumped in a couple parts. The big reason JC and the original Halloween were so successful was they rarely showed a lengthy shot of the creature or killer. Same with the original Alien.

The scariest movie of all time...has got to be..... ODIN!!!! *Screams and rocks back and forth sucking his thumb* THE HORROR!!!!!

Blair Witch and TX Chainsaw Massacre. Both becuase they take place in the modern world, but they're in the middle of nowhere... where crazy people can (and do) live and it takes you away from civilization and the familiar. The second time I saw Blair Witch (not as good) there were some urban gangsta thugs laughing all through it, and I kept thinking.... there are back woods places in TX that if you were dropped into them, lost, in the middle of the nigh YOU wouldn't be able to kep it together either.

The Exorcist was a pretty rough ride as well...

Older horrors - Psycho was good, Freaks was interesting (it's available on VHS I know), and Frankenstien, The Mummy, The Wolf Man, Godzilla & Creature From The Black Lagoon. maybe not scary by today's standards, but as a kid ... amazing stuff!

Jeeppers Creepers - I just kept watching it going "huh?" I'm still asking the question.

The Amityville Horror part 1 is my all time scariest movie. Then again, that's probably because I saw it when I was very young. The scene at the end where blood was coming out of the walls and floors and stairwells of the house absolutely freaked me out at the time. There were some scary parts of the Scream and I Know What you Did Last Summer movies, but for me, I think Amityville Horror takes the cake.

Mitch

I forgot about the Amityville Horror. If memory serves me, that had a really creepy soundtrack throughout the film. I lived about 30 miles from Amityville for two years and meant to go check out that house, but just never got around to it.

The scariest scene of all time, in my opinion, is from "The Shining." The scene where Jack Nickolson was kising the naked woman in the room, then she suddenly turned into a rotted living corpse and came after him, will never leave me. It took me a long time to get the image of that woman out of my head. Freaky!

The movie "It" wasn't bad either. Pennsywise was a real evil SOB.

wait just a minute! you thought blair witch was scary(?) but not jeepers creepers? i'll grant you psycho and maybe wolfman, but the others are , and were 40 years ago when i saw them, laughable!
please, jeepers creepers was mucho scary, i've never witnessed such a reaction to any other movie! and blair witch! i mean come on, that just plain reeked.
steve

I didn't see Jeepers Creepers and JC2 is already out. Got to get to Blockbuster and catch up.
JC2 looks cool too. Psycho was not scary at all nor were any of the Psychos that followed. The Haunting was a great movie but did not scare me either. I guess if you are a "Fan" of horror movies and are "into" them to a certain degree, you have a tendency to be scared less than others. Texas Chainsaw(the original)was just outright morbid. There is a remake of TCM coming out. Looks good as far as the special effects.
There are just too many to name but alot just don't rate as far as the "scare level".

Scary Movies!

I love horror movies, and, unlike alotta fans, I still get scared by a good one! I really dug last years' House of a 1000 Corpses. Another excellent movie from the same era as Todd Brownings' classic Freaks is Island of Lost Souls . Afew other faves are Jaws, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, The Exorcist, and Alien. A movie that really creeped me out bad was one called The Vanishing. It's a remake of a French flick, and both are very scary. I think it starred Jeff Bridges in the Hollywood version.

Jeepers Creepers I never saw... I was told that the new one is really good tho... any thoughts?

Blair Witch was, to me, not scary, but was very well done. It was a good movie. Most people didn't understand the last shot, because they didn't pay attention to the subtleties in the beginning! I loved it!
Cinemax had a parody of it.. A very soft core thing called "The Bare Wench Project." If you have the means, I highly reccomend it! Absolutely hilarious, and some luscious women in it!

I agree that Halloween was great. Michael Myers was a great character.
On the same note, I saw Freddy Vs Jason, and without giving anything away, the final shot is one of the main characters walking off into the night, carrying the other's head, and a strangely familliar piano piece playing in the background... Maybe a Michael Myers matchup is in the works? (ooh! alliteration!)

Well if you enjoyed the movies you liked, that's all that matters; I'm not trying to sway anyone because, like comedy, fear and intreague are very individual more of a sense than a calculated and clear reaction. I'm not sure why they even made Nutty Professor II.

There's something about modern people, who get into something that have no idea about what they are getting into, and then watching that civilizing shield within them dissolve when faced with something unknown yet simple (No damn ghosts coming out of a tv set, etc...) that is interesting and inspires suspense - they've been doing that since the silents. I think that was what was compelling about TCM. Although in thinking about it, I guess Psycho wasn't so scary as it was suspenseful.

A muppet that can't die driving a truck... and where was the motivation? What was that thing? Where did he come from? Where did it get fuel for the truck, who made the reapirs and who paid the propert taxes on his house? He was a slightly more interesting Jason Vorhees. Just a thing that killed. the things that kill for their own reasons, or things that might kill, but you're not sure, and you can't see 'em, I find more interesting. It was kind of like why I stopped reading the X-Men comics and got dissillusionjed with Twin Peaks: when you introduce an unexplained person(s) or event into the mix with powers to do ANYTHING, in becomes unintereesting to be. Anything can happen, but watching anything happen isn't compelling to me.

scary movies

I LOVE SCARY MOVIES!! Yes, I was yelling lol

I've been watching them ever since I was a child (that explains alot, too) and have always been fascinated with the occult and everything spooky 🙂

I remember watching Dark Shadows on tv as a kid and it always frightened me. Barnabus was just SO evil! And yes, I've always loved reading and seeing anything vampire related lol
Come on, isn't there something sexy about it? Not the whole blood sucking thing, but the more erotic passion of the bite. The women are first seduced and then killed only to achieve imortality...

I still think The Exorcist is the all time scariest movie if only for the scene with the damn ouija board! When that planchette flew off the thing I thought I'd die. Okay, okay as a kid and teenager, I too "played" with it and some freaky sh*t happened! I haven't touched one in years...

I love all kinds of scary movies. I'll leave you with a brief list
1. Poltergeist
2. The Omen and *The Final Conflict
(*I can only see that dude as the son of Satan whenever I see him. Sam Neil, that's it. Think Jurrasic Park. Kinda sexy tho in an adult way!)
3. Evil Dead it's an old Sam Ramy flick but scary if you think about it. It could happen, I guess!
4. The Shining
5. Carrie
6. Christine
(can you tell I really like Stephen King?!)
7. House on Haunted Hill (The remake. Much gorier)
8. The Legend of Hell House (old film but scary!)
9. One of my all time favorites....The Others
(This will scare you and the end scene is fantastic.
Talk about total realization!)
