ok since Halloween is fast approaching i thought this would be a timely thread..however the scene from a movie that might make you jump a mile or ten doesn't have to be a scary movie...just something that scared the piss out of you hehe..

ok i have a few...

"Racing with the Devil" starring Peter Fonda, Loretta Swit and others...the concept of this movie was two couples on a vacation traveling in a motor home..and the two men witness a sacrifice involving devil worship etc...the scene that made me jump and scream like a goof was this...after leaving a camp site, the women begin to think about making something for dinner..their nerves are on edge anyway as they are being chased by these worshippers..as one female opens a cabinet door, three rattle snakes come jumping out of the cabinet...the two men begin a fight scene that seems to last forever..now that was bad enough...however the scene that made me jump was this....searching after the snakes are dead...they cautiously open up all the cabinets to make sure there are no more snakes..when out pops a macaroni and cheese box lol..that sounds like a rattle..

"The Godfather" the scene where Michael visits his father in the hospital late at night..the corridors are empty...no one seems to be around..the guards set up to guard his father are not there...no one at the nurse's station...quite a scene...Michael reaches the door to his father's room..and a nurse comes up behind him and whispers...it made me jump...

"Carrie" the last scene where the hand comes up through the grave..even david jumped at that lol..

I don't like that many scary movies, but the scene that made me jump at the theater:

The first appearance of "Jaws" as Rob Scheider's character is chumming off the boat - The entire theater jumped out of their seats when the shark's head popped out of the water. The fact that the theater was at the shore probably added to the moment. Made for an interesting summer at the beach.

Ya know... this was the movie that first came to mind too but for a different scene...
The scene where Richard Dreyfuss dives under the abandoned fishing boat , finds a big hole in the hull, and then the dead fisherman pops head first out of the hole.

Lets face it... there were a lot of scenes in this movie that made you jump.

The most recent ones were in White Noise. There were quite a few in that one. I have watched so many "scary" movies for so many years that most of the time I can anticipate the next line spoken... the next happening, and that has made them a lot less "scary," as a matter of fact, I laughed my way through the Final Destinationmovies but let me tell ya... for some reason, when I watched White Noise, I was really happy I was watching it in the day time.

Now for a real good squeamish factor... the scene in Apcalypto where the dudes jump off the waterfall and one of them, for whatever dumb reason, jumps head first and smacks his head into the rocks just under the falls. You can see it coming, but it still gave you the willys when you see (and hear) him hit. Ugh!

The scene in the original The Haunting (1963) when the two women are locked in the room and something wants in. The bulging door got me as a kid.

the book is far scarier....but good scene nonetheless..

damn i forgot about White Noise..we began to watch it the other night when david said...uh let's change it....:ranty: big baby hehe

Several scenes in Jaws did it for me because the young lady i saw the movie with jumped all over me. 😀

You and me both, bub. My parents and I were on vacation, and saw it at a drive-in theater. Since i was only eight and couldn't see over the dashboard, they stacked a couple of boat cushions between them that I could sit on. When that damn shark head popped out of the water, I jumped so bad I hit my head on the roof of the car. My parents still laugh their asses off about that to this day. Har har har....I still have a fear of water from that:scared:

The original Excorsist, when Linda Blairs' characters head spins completely around to face the person behind her, and the shadow cast on the wall as the devil is leaving the room

Aliens

Aliens:

Burke (Paul Reiser) gets too close to a vial with something in it and then....

BUMP! A face hugger kisses the side of the vial

Hicks (Michael Biehn): sounds like love at first sight!

i remembered Jaws..i just knew others would mention it...

another scary moment was in the icky movie..."Penny Dreadful" very many jumpy spots..one in particular when she stabbed the creep in his eyeball...yuck..

great answers everyone

good thread izzy lol...

2. THe Shining.... Jack Nicholson movie... The scene that still scares me is when the ghosts of the " twins" are seen for the first time by Danny. STILL makes me jump.

This one gets the Gold Medal!! Unless yer on a bottle and a half of vallum yer gonna freak!

The bit in Intruders when the "little boy" turns round to face the sisters by the lake.

Knowing something about the subject matter I had a pretty good idea of what was coming, but shit myself nonetheless.

The flick "Event Horizon" when they show the ship's log.... I doubt anyone is comfortable with that.

^ i cannot watch the Exorcist even today...i jumped up to change the channel when she came downstairs backwards and on all fours...for some reason that scared the crap out of me..i never saw a shadow of the devil leaving the room....eeks....

That movie was messed up.

I'm with ya... I'm startle easily anyhow even though I love horror flicks but MAN... that messed me up for weeks. I was 18 and couldn't sleep without the light on. Fucked up.

blerrr

The scene with the woman with spinobifia? in Pet Semetary always gave me the creeps. So did that bit in the crying game.
