Where can I find pigeon feathers ? I live in a small town. I walked down to courthouse square and circled the entire block between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. An old guy on the corner told me that the pigeons live on the roof of the courthouse, and never come down to the street.

What can I do ?

(Climbing the courthouse is not an acceptable procedure)

If I can't find pigeon feathers, I would like to be able to get Blue-Jay and/or Cardinal feathers.

The 'Lee in question really wants pigeon feathers, and if at all possible, I want them to be as natural as possible; i.e., something I pick up off the street from a live pigeon or blue-jay or cardinal who just left one behind.

Suggestions ?

You may not be able to go up to the courthouse roof. But, they likely have custodial staff that go up periodically to clean things up. You can always ask if they'd be willing to bag some for you.

Ok, first of all P50 you DO know that some birds carry diseases right? ANd it probably ISN'T a good idea to pick up feathers off the street and run them all over your lee's body, or for you to even hold them for that matter. I have never checked for pigeon feathers, but http://www.ostrich.com has a nice selection of feathers. you might want to check there.

Can I wrap them in paper towels and zap them in a microwave ?

You'd be better off telling your friend to choose another feather that has been sanitized. I wouldn't use feathers that haven't been sanitized. She could end up with something that would make her very sick.

Hope you find what you're looking for.

.....Your best bet ...Go to a store that has an "arts and crafts"
section. Or a store like Michaels or Franks..There you'll find a pretty good selection of feathers and paint brushes....

Is this "sanitized" biz a hi-tech process ?

Can I just boil the feathers or expose them to U-V light ?

What is involved in "sanitizing" a feather ?
