Seeing a movie by yourself = loser?

I'm going to see The Watchmen next week, and due to circumstances, it looks like I will be going alone to see it. I've always felt that movies are more fun when attended with friends

This made me start thinking back to the last few movies I saw and I realized I went alone to go see them! I didn't even realize it until I thought about it. I guess I've become the "creepy guy sitting by himself in the theater" that my parents used to warn me about.

I guess I was just wondering what other peoples opinions are? Have you gone to see movies by yourself? Will you NOT go to see a movie alone? I'm just curious. Thanks.

Though, I have never seen a movie by myself I don't really see the reason why it would make somebody a loser.

There are plenty of people who don't want to wait around to make some type of master plan with their friends to just go see a movie.

After all is said and done, the only difference between someone who goes to the theater by himself and the person who rents the flick by themselves is roughly about five bucks.

Every theater has several people sitting in for the movie by themselves. I don't know about anybody else on here, but I have never judged them.

If I want to see a movie, then I am going to see a movie.

But eh, fuck them. There's nothing wrong with seeing a movie by yourself, depends on if you want to watch it. I mean I remember going to see movies with a girl and not even paying much attention to it. So yeah.

Ha ha it's hard not to feel a little like a loser sitting there though, isn't it? I've seen a few movies alone myself over the years, and it is a lot different than seeing a movie with a friend. However I think it can be fun, and sometimes you end up understanding or catching more of the overall movie.

Final Answer: Movies alone are not a bad thing. (you could be getting into way worse trouble doing things alone)

I think it is because since we are young we get accustomed to going with people and it's a social outing like having a buddy sleepover then having a parent or older sibling take the two of you there then to grab a bite to eat. When I was younger I remember thinking that I personally would feel weird going by myself, but never judged others that did. Today, while I still rather make it an outing with a friend, if I've got time to kill and really want to see something I'll go solo and it's never made the movie any less enjoyable.

What I do try to avoid like the flu is going to a movie on Friday or Sat night especially on opening weekend, regardless of whether or not someone is with me. It seems to draw out the kids whose parents dropped them at the mall 9 hours earlier and they think that because their parents abandoned them for the entire day at a mall filled with potenial rapist and they are now in 6th grade, they are adults and can sing and scream at the movies. That shit, I don't play. They are welcome to visit like loons before the movie starts, once it starts, shuttie. If they don't I'll tell them if no one else will. 🙂

the only times i would go to the movies alone is if i really don't want to be distracted during a movie i was really really looking forward to.

But the time i usually go was movies is during the week at like 11am so i'm like one of 4 people in the theater.

Don't call yourself a loser. You'll sound like a certain someone I won't mention by name 😉

Anyway, seeing a movie by yourself does not make you a loser. Look at it as a hobby, its something you enjoy, so go out and enjoy it. To hell with what people think.
And as for the creepy guy by himself your folks warned you about, I'm sure they just meant Paul Reubens 🙂

I love seeing movies by myself. I had to go see one for a foreign film class that I was taking, so I went to see Pan's Labyrinth during the day. NO ONE WAS THERE. I had the entire theatre to myself and it was so nice, it was like it was in my house or something. I changed my seat during the movie a few times, laid down for a while, answered a phone call and didn't care about bothering other people, LOL. But overall I go to kinda drift off and let the movie take me away for awhile, it was fun. You aren't a loser at all.

I think it's totally fine to go to a movie by yourself. It's not like you talk or socialize during the movie anyway. You're just sitting next to someone as opposed to not. So go, alone, and sit next to somebody 🙂 It's the same thing 😛

Back when i was a teen, i went to a couple matinees alone. i was the only one in the whole theater. i felt like a king!

I prefer to watch movies with other people, being able to see their reactions, somehow improves the experience for me.

That said, if there's a movie I really want to see and no one wants to take me or go with, I wouldn't be against seeing it alone. The thought seems kind of depressing, but fuck it.

I agree, if I really want to see it then I'll go alone when nobody else wants to go.

That's a pretty good idea actually. Had to do that when I was reviewing movies for my school's newspaper sometimes.

I don't think it makes a person a loser to see a movie alone. Hehe sometimes,i wished i could have seen some movie by myself. Not so much these days though. My advice, go drunk... i've noticed being drunk makes me feel like i'm my own group of friends. Just don't be disruptive and laugh/barf at inappropriate times.

It's been twenty plus years since i set foot in a movie theater,but i used to go by myself all the time and never thought twice about it.If the movie turned out to be a stinker i could get up and walk out without worrying that i might ruin someone else's evening.🙂

I agree that seeing a movie with someone else can often be more fun. But, I don't think it makes anyone a loser if they go alone. On the contrary, I think (given the piss poor attitude of our society about things at times) it takes a real winner to go on their own. To hell with what anyone else might think! Who says that everything we're about has to include others??? I love doing things alone.

Go! Enjoy the movie! Be glad that you have the strength to spit in the face of conformity!

I see movies by myself occasionally. That being said, I rarely, if ever, actually go to the theater building alone. What usually happens is that my friend has either already seen the movie I want to see, or doesnt want to see it, so he goes into another theater in the multiplex, and sees something else, while I go see whatever movie I'm going to see. Being in the theater alone doesnt make me feel like a "loser". All I look at it is that I want to see a certain movie, and my friends have either already seen that movie, or dont want to see it.

How people feel about this issue depends on their point of view, but this is how I see it.
