Separating tickling and professionalism

I'm a 25 year old med student and I've been lurking on this site for WAY too long. I figure it's time to embrace my tickling/foot fetishes by discussing one particular concern on my mind.

Working in the medical field, I am given the extreme honor of being allowed by patients to conduct physical exams. This is a unique trust that I haven't seen anywhere else. And like tickling, the physical exam is based on touch and intimacy (though of a very different nature).

Problem is, occasionally the patient is a very attractive young woman and at times I have to examine her feet and even perform a maneuver akin to tickling her foot (look up Babinski reflex).

I am ashamed to admit that a thrill runs through me at these times, because the last thing I want to do is violate my patient's trust in me. While I keep everything appropriately professional, I still feel guilty about my attraction. My heart wants to keep the profession and the tickling strictly separated, but the brain runs wild.

Do you think this is horrible of me? How can I better control my desires?

I think you should be reassured by how bad you feel. With such a strong ethical code, I predict you won't be violating anyone's trust any time soon.

You get a rush out of doing what you're supposed to be doing. I can see the complication, but as long as you don't start doing unnecessary procedures to check out a girl's feet, you're fine. Lots of people enjoy their work. You might just experience that in a more literal, intense way. Just stay professional - you have nothing to feel bad about.

I wouldn't worry about it....with time - and a lot of horrible feet you will see - the thrill will most likely fade away!

I admire your admission, but I agree with the others. Guilt has a purpose, and it seems your conscience is well-developed. Stay strong, and enjoy tickling outside the workplace. As a doc, you'll attract plenty of attention and the right person will come your way soon enough. Good luck.

As some posters above have stated, I feel that it is good that you feel some conflict about the situations you describe. It means that you honestly take your oaths seriously.

Look at it like this, As a doctor you often have to see female patients in a state of undress, or nude as a part of your job. They and many people in society understand that as a male seeing them in such a state might be arousing to you on some level, but they trust that your professionalism allows you to perform your duty without taking advantage of their state. In short, they know how seeing their body might effect you, but accept it because of the promise of your ethics being in place.

With the tickling the only difference is that the patient is not aware that you get a positive jolt from the action. But they still are holding a trust in your ethics. And one that is justified. As you are not making up reasons to do tickly things to patients.

A part of your guilt might arise from the very fact that they DON'T know it arouses you. And thus you may feel that the silent contract of trust is being breached.

Based on what you say I think you are fine, and being very moral. As long as you are not creating situations to feed your fetish, then you are fine.

And welcome to the forum. Glad you joined us.

The Oath will set you straight. With the oath it's one strike you're out.

I admire your admission also Dr. or soon to be doctor. Not many would have admitted to this. I bet sometime in your physcial examination you will find a very pretty lady who when you do exam her feet is really ticklish and she may even make a comment that she loves to have her feet tickled. If this ever happens to you I would immediately let her know that you actually love to tickle womens feet but that you try very hard to separate the two of doing physical exams and actually tickling a ladies feet. Maybe she will surprise you and give you her phone number then and then you may have a girlfriend that you met in your office.....LOL Good Luck my friend, but please do keep the two separate until such a day comes that a lady tells you she loves to have her feet tickled.

Bad idea I would say! Very bad! But you never cease to amaze me!

Everybody has desires and fantasies that don't belong in the workplace. Don't feel guilty about having such desires and fantasies as long as your actions with patients are strictly professional. 😀

Also, congratulations on delurking and joining the posting members of the TMF! :couch:

Nothing wrong with the urge, but NEVER actually tickle someone in the workplace no matter what your profession is. It's a great way to be fired on sexual harassment charges or even be sued.

To be honest, for every healthy foot I see, there are 10 feet that are deformed and gangrenous from years of diabetes and wear-and-tear. I certainly do see feet in a whole different light now and can appreciate people who actually have healthy, attractive peds. It's not as common as you would think.

Let me assure you, I've had that thought once or twice before. Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you look at it the right way) dating patients is STRICTLY forbidden by our medical code of ethics. The emotions can skew the therapeutic relationship. It doesn't hurt to dream though, does it?

I think you're ok. I was a Massage Therapist for 6 years and the gnarly, broken, wart covered feet vastly outnumbered the nice ones. Just stay professional...you'll get your personal tickle time.

The best is yet to come, conan2995

conan2995, doctors are chick magnets! Outside of public figures, there are few positions that draw more women to a man than that of an M.D.. If it has not happened already, soon enough you will have more girls looking to please you than there are patients to see on hospital rounds. If healing the sick is not enough of a reward for you, the ladies willing to take your white coat to the dry cleaners will make all your hard work pay off!

You already seem to realize you've got to keep your attraction to hot female patients in check. Holding back the urge to continue tickling after the Babinski part of the exam is over won't be so frustrating as you realize even more nice girls want appointments after office hours. Talk about a practice!

It sounds like you have served your time in hammer toe hell already. Cheer up, you could be a gay urologist with a cough fetish! Anyone smart enough to work hard enough to become a doctor should know when to toe the line! or not!! Good luck to you in all your work.

I think we can all agree that if you wanna tickle someone and get away with it, you have to become a massage therapist, or just a physical therapist in general.
