Well, as we know, in about 90 minutes in the East, it will be September. This is usually a very exciting month for major league baseball teams in contention for division and wild card spots.
My Atlanta Braves had so many wonderful Septembers from 1991 to 2005, all starting with a little, innocent September in 1991, when they, the last place losers of the year before, outlasted the Dodgers for the NL West on the second to last day of the season.
1993 was even better. That year, as baseball fans know, the NL West at that time, went down to the final day, decided when Mils' Dodgers demolished the Giants, sending them home, with 103 wins.
The wild card has diluded this a bit, as, if the wild card had existed at that time, the Giants would have made the playoffs easily in 1993, and the Dodgers would have made it in 1991.
The Braves and Phillies are giving a very interesting race in the NL East. Philly is playing at a disadvantage with all their injuries, but the Braves have had a very good season so far.
I fully expect that one of those teams is going to win the NL East, and the other one the wild card, and that things between the two teams will be settled in the NL Championship Series, which is how it should be. Two good teams, playing for the chance to go to the World Series.
Bring On September! I welcome it!
