Ok, if I may, I am going to lead you all on a little rant of mine that I've been bitching about for quite some time now. Why is it that the media, doctors or whoever tells us that we should be open about our sexual fantasies and fetishes. What they really mean is you should only be open about it if it isn't something "outside the box". This isn't the only website that I frequent that is somewhat of a sexual interests site, and it is amazing to me how many people I find. The question is this, why is it such a big deal to do the things that you enjoy, that get you off? As long as you're not hurting anyone and it is all consensual, why does everyone get so squeamish? It's the conservative, bible-thumping, afraid-of-change community that basically runs this country and stifles our sexual creativity. People do not feel safe just coming out and exploring their fantasies with people until they've opened up to them and at that point, if your tastes aren't similar, it was just a waste of time! People I have dated have said to me several times that I was "weird" for enjoying the things I do, and I'm sure a lot of you out there have experienced the very same thing! I find that it is actually "the weirdos" are the only accepting people in America. Whatever someone decides to do in the privacy of their own house, dungeon, barn, vehicle, WHATEVER. It has no effect on me, so why bitch? People realy need to stop judging so much and look at their own lives and figure out what it is that they want, rather than deciding what is morally right for the rest of the world.

Redhed, you and I have chatted some, and I couldnt agree more. As you know from having talked to me, Iam a bit of the "eccentric", of the site, with my ladder interests, and Iam in total agreement with you that people should be free to have any interests they want, so long as it doesnt hurt anyone else.

I completely agree with you, and understand what you are saying. I guess it is good that you found this site, where you can converse with open minded people who understand alternative interests. Iam sorry that you have had the experiences you have in regard to your interests. I think many of us on this site have been through that. Hopefully, you can find members of the community who share your interests to befriend, and maybe even date or hook up with, who understand you, and what you enjoy. Liking what you do doesnt make you "weird", and I think it is good that you are in touch with your interests, and chose to find a site like this. In a democracy founded on ideals of liberty, what goes on behind closed doors - an it harm none - is not the government's business. It just isn't.

There's a tricky balance to be struck there - any abusive spouse, for example, will do their damndest to hide the effects of their criminal behaviour, so at some point the law has to identify reasonable grounds for suspecting something criminal is going on.

But the issue here, like redhed said to start with, is more about morals than laws. It's more about the 'herd instinct'. There are some things that make the herd nervous. And although D/s in its various facets is becoming more and more mainstream (believe me, I've spent the last twelve years watching carefully while it did) those of us who enjoy that kind of play are still very much a minority and also very much an object of suspicion and derision for the masses - the images you see of people in the fetish community (communities might be a better way of putting it) are rarely positive. The only times I've seen foot fetishes discussed in mainstream news media, it's been in connection with an arrest for someone who's let their sexual predilection move them beyond the bounds of what's acceptable.

The sad thing there being, that individual has felt they had to do that to express their sexuality. They didn't feel they had another outlet because of the horrible judgementalism of the community at large.

I'm a regular well-adjusted human being (quiet at the back!). I have a foot fetish and an enjoyment of tickling (especially, of being tickled, and even more especially, of being tickled under restraint). None of which matters when I file a tax return, or get on a bus, or go to a restaurant. But there's an awful lot of prudes and puritans out there, even now. Things are getting better in that regard, but to a lot of people the idea that, for example, i might want to tie someone up puts me under the banner heading of 'rapist' because they can't wrap their heads around the idea that she might dearly want that too - too many people still have minds too narrow to accommodate the idea that someone else wants things that they would not. Sad.

I've been reading everyone's feedback and the reason I posted this thread was because I thought it was something everyone could relate to. I love to have conversations with people, and I love hearing what others have to say about any type of issue whether it be religion or sex. Unfortunately, I usually have to do it at school where the only people I get to talk to are women over 60, and relatively naiive and prude girls.

All that I have read has made me smile and think that maybe there are some real people out there who aren't afraid to show who they trully are rather than jump on the bandwagon because it is the safe and popular place to be. I am very glad that I stumbled accross this website and get to meet so many interesting and awesome people.

Basically the other people on here that have posted before me are right. People are just scared of what they don't understand or don't want to take a chance to get to understand also really. I think it's good to open up to people that you love and/ or really really trust in telling them your fetish or fetishes. I just feel that if people don't have a clue about about something (fetishes included) they should just butt out. You know, I may be opening a can of worms here, but I just have to say that I've had some conversations with people I would classify as conservative, bible thumping, afraid-of-change people and have discovered some serious underlying kinks lurking just below the surface. These kinks are what give me hope for them as human beings in general

You have to admit though, that America is a LOT more open about sexuality than they were even 20 years ago. Homosexuality for example carries, I think, less of a stigma than it did 20 years ago. Not a huge change, but I think America is more open to it than they used to be.

And I think in general, a person with a fetish is less likely to be labeled a "pervert" than they were 20 years ago unless its something that even the most liberal would consider too "out there". Of course since I don't leave the house much except to go to work, I'm probably not the best person to gauge what society is like LOL
