Shawn Merriman arrested for allegedly choking girlfriend

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego Chargers star linebacker Shawne Merriman was arrested on suspicion of choking and restraining his girlfriend, a reality TV star, as she tried to leave his Southern California home, authorities said.

San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. Gary Steadman said 27-year-old Tila Tequila signed a citizen's arrest warrant early Sunday, charging Merriman with battery and false imprisonment.

Tequila was taken to a hospital. Her condition was not immediately available.

Merriman, 25, was taken into custody by deputies who responded to a distress call at his home in Poway, north of San Diego.

Tequila, whose real name is Tila Nguyen, is best known for her MTV dating reality show, "A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila."


Merriman continues to make the Cowboys look smarter-and-smarter for drafting DeMarcus Ware over him. I had no idea he was even dating Tequila.

Probably "roid rage". What a nitwit. Roger Goodell usually doesn't put up with this kind of behavior so I would expect some sort of punishment or suspension for Shawne.

On a side note, I commend the University of Oregon for suspending LeGarrette Blount for the season for sucker punching the Boise St player after the game. One punch probably cost that punk millions of dollars. The NFL already has plenty of jerkoffs. They don't need another one.

That's another thing. The NFL shouldn't wait until these players reach their level to talk to them about staying out of trouble. They should have access to these players while they're still in college and hope to prevent it even further. If they come out of school as a screw up then they should suspend their draft eligibility for one year.
