4u, I see your point, and I respect it, but I disagree.
As I think I've mentioned before, I blog on the Atlanta Journal Constitution.com website. The paper published opinion articles by two of their head sportswriters, Mark Bradley, and Jeff Schultz, both of whom have been with the paper for a long time. Just as differing opinions make the world go round, the head sportswriters of the AJC had polar opposite views on this issue. Mark Bradley felt that Selig made the right call, that umpiring is a split second decision business, and that umps get other calls wrong all the time, so Joyce's call should stand. Jeff Schultz, on the other hand, shared my view, that because the call made the difference between a perfect game, and a one hitter, integrity is most important, and Selig should have overturned it, so that the game would be decided by the correct call of what the play actually was, and not a wrong call.
Again, everyone will have differing opinions on this. Selig's was the only one that mattered. He made his decision. The book is closed on that game. End of story.
