This afternoon, my mom and I went to Chili's for lunch. Usually, I've always liked Chili's. After today, I have to question if I'll be returning there... ever.

After lunch, I returned home, and had resumed my work, when I felt violently ill. For the rest of this afternoon, I had an upset stomach like I've never had in my life.

My mom told me that she was sick to her stomach as well, and that she called Chili's to complain that we had both gotten sick from their food. My mom said that Chili's "apologized", and offered her "free coupons". I wont be returning to Chili's anytime soon to use them.

It's about six hours after I ate lunch, and I'm hopefully finally starting to feel better, but this is about the most ill I ever remember getting from a resturant.

Eating out anywhere carries some risk. When i was in the pest control business we serviced everything from mom and pop hole in the wall joints to Five Star Restaurants. Some of the kitchens were clean, some not.

Dumping on an entire chain like Chili's is way out of line. The one you ate at may have some problems.Report it to the local health department and they will look into it.

Bug, I see your point. I will say that I do know that we have resturant inspections by the health department here that have been reported in our local newspaper, and, in the past, Chilis has been in there, but, supposedly cleaned their problems up.

I may choose not to return there for personal reasons, or at least not the one here in Lancaster. If others I know want to go there, and dont have problems with getting sick, then that's their choice.

Aww...sorry to hear you are having food poisoning (or something like it.) Hope you feel better soon. :twohugs:

It sucks that now a days you never know what restaurants are safe and which ones aren't.

Thats kind of suprising, chilis is one of my favorite restauraunts and ive never had a problem with them being clean. Hope you feel better

Free coupons? My favorite of the "we're sorry" offers. I was once food poisoned after eating a Stouffer's frozen dinner and they did the same thing. Offered me the almighty free coupons. I told the guy, "Dude, do you seriously think I want to eat your shitty food again now?" He was pretty speechless, as expected. Sorry to hear of your experience. I can most definitely sympathize.

Thanks, music, Trez, and Adam.

Adam, what's odd is that this isnt the first time I was at Chili's. In the past, I hadnt had a problem, so maybe bug is right that I was being harsh. All I know is, that when I've had a stomach upset from food previously, it was never as bad as this. I took a Pepto, and went to sleep for a long time, and I do feel better now, so hopefully it's passed over, but I'll be eating bland foods for the next couple of days just to be sure.

I'm sorry to hear about your food poisioning from the Stouffer's dinner, Adam, and you're absolutely right, free coupons make me think the same thing you just said: "Yeah, right, your food got me one time, with one of the worst stomach upsets I ever had, so why the hell would I eat your food again?"

Most important, I'm hopefully feeling better. Thanks for the support, everyone.

Glad to hear you're feeling better, Mitchell. I admit, since it was about 4 years ago, I have eaten Stouffer's again without incident. I'm sure Chili's food is usually good, too. Sometimes it just depends on who prepared it or how it was prepared. Or perhaps it was contaminated sometime before getting to the restaurant due to careless handling. You never know. But the main point, as I have already stated, is that you're feeling better. That's all that really matters. 🙂

Thanks, Adam, and I'm glad to hear you have eaten Stauffer's again without incident.

Who knows, maybe I'm just pissed at Chilis tonight cause of how bad I felt. As bug said, it may have been unfair of me to rank on a whole chain, cause of one lunch that made me sick. I might not go to Chilis for a bit, but I've learned in my life that "never" is a long time, so maybe I will return there at some point.

Presumably, he expected that you might want to eat the non-shitty variety again.

No doubt. But you know, at that point, you're just a little on the miffed side. 😉

Many years ago I was up all night vomiting after eating the scallops in a somewhat fancy restaurant near Grand Central Terminal in midtown. Unlike Chili's, they simply claimed that it couldn't have possibly been their food that caused it. It couldn't have been anything else. Obviously, I never ate there again.

In your case, I would never go back to that particular location, but it's silly to think that all Chili's have the same problem.

I'm sorry to hear that you got so sick, mils. That's awful. The resturant that claimed it couldn't have been their food sounds very haughty taughty.

My uncle (Aunt's husband, really, but uncle through marriage anyway) is from Ecaudor, and he says that he rarely eats in resturants, and prefers to eat home, because of the uncertainity of food preparation in resturants. He's also a vet of jungle medcine, and is very into germs, and looking at germs through microscopes, etc. He claims that you wouldnt believe what crap one finds in resturant kitchens.

Is he a little overcautious? I dont know. He may have a point. I'm not going to stop eating in resturants. It's too fun, lol,. when the food is good.

LOL, sure if you want then, Tony, I'll be more than happy to oblige.

Also, just so everyone knows, what happened to me was definitely as a result of eating at Chili's, because, thankfully, my stomach feels perfectly fine today.

Maybe I'll just make a bonfire with my Chili's coupons, who knows?

Mitch

lemoncake, I'm sorry to hear you have a sensitive stomach.

Actually, I love eating at buffets. I go to a delicious chinese buffet every week, and to a fried chicken buffet called Cactus Willies every 2-3 weeks. Thankfully, knock on wood, I've never gotten sick from either.

I've gotten sick numerous times since I've lived in Lancaster, ironically, at sit down places or fast food. McD's, Burger King, two Japanese places, Bob Evans, , and most recently, of course, Chilis'

Ironically, I've never been back to any of the places I got sick at. I used to eat McDs all the time when I lived in Jersey, but havent touched it since 1999. I havent been to BK, since getting sick from a chicken sandwich there, before a meeting in 2001.

Normally, when I eat out, I'm fine.

As for the coupons: You might have a point. Maybe I will sell them on Ebay, lol. I'll probably just give them to someone I know, with the hopes they dont get sick!

Another food poisoning story. A few weeks ago, my aunt, (The one whose married to the guy who is the vet of jungle medicine) ate dinner at Popeye's fried chicken, and subsequently said she vomited seventeen times after eating there. That has to be one of the worst cases of food illness I've ever heard of.
