Silent Hill: Who's going this Friday?

Another alert, if you have a weak stomach, DO NOT see this movie.

I was suprised it didn't get an NC-17 rating, with all the violent gore.

But if the idea of seeing a person get the flesh peeled from their bones; and seeing someone burn alive CLOSE up, I mean to where you can see the flesh melting off of their face, gets you fired up, go see it!

I was pumped after the movie, lmfao

Let me start off by saying I am a huge Silent Hill fan. Love the games.

I will not be attending a showing of the movie for three reasons:

1. They changed the main character from a father looking for his lost daughter to a mother looking for her lost daughter.

2. The director's reasoning for this was that a man would not care enough to look for his lost child under such circumstances, only a woman would have the fortitude/desire to look for the child. Apparently, men simply do not have a strong love for their children, or so this director believes. He goes on to comment on how "feminine" the Silent Hill world is. Yeah, cutting walking abombinations in half with meat cleavers and chainsaws, beating the life out of undead nurses with a steel pipe... that really strikes me as "feminine." I mean, we all know how much more well-suited women are for physical combat than men! 🙄 I guess the director forgot that 96% of the fanbase for this "feminine" game is male.

Check out the interview for yourself (still makes my blood boil):

Silent Hill Director Interview

3. I despise CGI, and this movie is chock full of it. CGI never has, and never will, scare me. Period.

Wow, even though I enjoyed the movie, that interview DID piss me off. The direcotr OBVIOUSLY hasn't played the games. What a dumbass.

Aw hell! Now I gotta see it!! :triangle:

Thanks for all the replies about this movie, since they sticked with the main story from the game, i guess it'll be great. Although i have to agree with some of you who said it, they have the bad habit of modifying the main characters, same thing happened to Resident Evil, and lots of others, unfortunately it's starting to be a trend these days... That aside, i'm now really looking forward to see it! :atom:

Honest Review.

Since I've slept on it, I'm going to post my honest review of this movie.

Here is my review of this movie.

CAUTION: REVIEW CONTAINS *SPOILERS*

I'm gonna give it an 8 out of 10.

Above average film. Great for fans of this series.

Pros: EXCELLENT visuals. Captures mood, look and feel perfectly. Music was great, albeit a bit random and short. The soundtrack was ripped straight from the games, which was perfect. Great gore scenes, I'm a sucker for mass slaughter, and this film has one of the best slaughter scenes I've had the pleasure of watching. Very Creepy.

CONS: Plot holes, Plot holes, Plot holes. Gans really should have stuck to the plot in the original Silent Hill. I didn't like the way he changed the cult, I didn't like how he made the lead a female, and I didn't like the name changes. Of course, coming from a man who said "Silent Hill is feminine", I would expect no less. The movie seemed to drag on at times, and the last 15 minutes were HORRIBLE. (The scene with Lisa, where rose learns the supposed "truth") The scene reminded me of the "Architect" scene from the Matrix: Reloaded. The film had some outright shameful dialogue as well.

The ending was saved by the Slaughter Scene IMO. All that carnage, and seeing cristabella get raped by barbed wire will never get old. There were some really good gruesome scenes in thos movie. I loved seeing Anna get skinned, and I like how they portrayed Cybil being burned at the stake.

Overall, I highly enjoyed this movie, and I would reccomend it to any fan of this series. Could have been more, but I was happy with it.

God, I SO wanna see this movie now. The picture of "pyramid head" (was that his name?) just sealed it. That combined with Gremios reviews and commentary. I'm SUCH a gore *****....this movie should thrill me to no end.

I've never played the game, but I've listened to Cozzie talk about it for hours on end, and one of my best friends hubbies was/is OBSESSED with the Silent Hill series. I don't know how many times I would be on the phone with her at 10pm or so, after the kids had gone to bed, and Kevin would be in the living room with the lights off playing SH. And out of the blue I'd hear him SCREAM BLOODY MURDER in the background because something on the game scared him so bad. He usually wouldn't sleep for 2-3 days after those episodes. She used to watch him play and would tell me how ungodly FRIGHTENING the game is. Scarier than anything she's ever seen before. I keep trying to encourage Laz to check it out and play it. I think he finally will. I honestly think if him and the kids love Resident Evil so much, they'll really love Silent Hill. Especially if I drag Lazzy with me to go see the movie.

Just one quick question....is the movie "scary" at all? Or is it just a pure gore fest? Gore alone is enough to get me to go see it, but if it has honest creep factor, that will be a mega bonus for me.

Mimi 😀

There are many scary parts. One thing to keep in mind though, like the games, this movie is all about atmosphere. It's about taking in the scenery, and putting yourself in the position of the heroin. It gets insane at the end, but I think you would enjoy it!

I got a good question.I didn't see the movie and i want to know,The part the women can't find her kid,How come she just drive in the city and not run?

I saw it at the w-end I thought it was a good film, silly me I had no idea that it was based on a game, if I had known that I may not have bothered to see it lol 😛

I didn't like Sean Bean's American accent, I thought he could have done better with that. Guys will like it to see the policewoman in her leathers lol.

Overall, it was entertaining with the effects but I think the story was a wee bit naff for me, it could have had much more depth than what it was, sorry 😉

Anyone care to say what the story is behind the game?

On another note, I just realised that they have re-made the Omen... yipppeee now that is one flick I gotta see as I loved the original with Greg Peck and Lee Remick, I can't believe that it will surpass the original. I wonder if it will be released on 06/06/06 lol 😱

Thats a very long question to answer, Slap. I'd recomend renting th original game for the PS1 if you have the system. If yoy want to read an extremely more detailed version, which goes into great details about the game and the questions that are in the game, i could post a link but it's probably more then a hundred pages.

POST MOVIE FINAL THOUGHTS

*MEGA SPOILERS*

Aleesa was deemed a "witch" by her classmates and teacher (Christobel) because she was "bastard child" and "born from sin" (which I guess is a reference to her not having a father). Christobel convinced Aleesa's mother to let them "cleanse" her, which of course, meant burning her alive. Things went awry and a fire started. The detective tried to help her (burning his hands), but by the time he got to her, shes near dead, skin charred. They put her in the hospital and kept her alive. She was in terrible amounts of pain, which turned to hatred for the people that had done this to her (the townspeople). Her hate and rage "summoned" whatever that girl was (The devil, or SAMAEL), and she gave Aleesa the ability to turn Silent Hill into a living nightmare/hell for the people that lived there, which is what the "darkness" was.

It was obvious that the Silent Hill Sharon/Rose and the cop were in was different from the Silent Hill that the husband and the detective were in, and I'm guessing that because Sharon was really just a "piece" of Aleesa, that's how her and Rose were pulled into that Silent Hill. I guess the cop got there because she followed Rose and Sharon.

My theory, based on my knowledge of the Silent Hill universe:

The villagers in the "alternate" Silent Hill were dead (from the fires.. if you remember the detective saying that everyone there died), yet they were suspended in Silent Hill (kind of like a purgatory). The Reaper (as she called herself in the movie), joined with Aleesa telling her she could get her revenge on the villagers that tried to kill her. This benefitted the Reaper also since by Aleesa "killing" them off, the Reaper was getting their souls (as opposed to them being in the "limbo Silent Hill"). The Darkness was when Aleesa would make attempts to go after and kill the remaining villagers, however she couldn't get to them if they were inside the church. She needed Rose and Sharon (who was basically a personification of Aleesa). When Rose and Sharon went to Silent Hill and had their car accident, they died (which is what Aleesa needed them to do in order to get into the Silent Hill she was in/had control over). If you notice, the way Cybil's bike hit the rail, there was no way she wouldn't have been thrown over the railing to her death.

That is why at the end, they really weren't even there... I think they were still stuck in purgatory ("Alternate" Dimension)
