Semi-frozen slushy soft drinks called Slurpees were first made available 40 years ago and until now, they are sold in 5,800 7-Eleven stores in the US and Canada. This month, 7-Eleven will be launching a promotion to celebrate Slurpee's birthday. The popular drink, named after the sound made when drinking it through a straw, is considered an iconic American brand. Over 6 billion Slurpees have been sold since 1965, with sales of $170 million annually in the US. Brain freeze, anyone? :xlime:

Yeah, Slurpees are fantastic 😀 I used to get them all of the time when I was a kid. However, there haven't been any 7-11's in our area for years 🙁
Ah well, I'll get a Slush Puppy in celebration instead.

Hooray for the Slurpee! In celebration, I plan on hitting my local 7-11 for a huge Black Cherry Lemonade Slurpee.....WOO HOO :veryhappy :veryhappy :veryhappy

I prefer ICEE to Slurpee, even though they are basically the same. A Slurpee sounds like a sex act one would get in Bangkok.

From what I can find, ICEE has been around longer than Slurpee, ICEE being first made in the late 50's. I found out that the first ICEE distributorship was sold to a guy in my hometown of Shreveport, which is probably why I have such fond memories as a child of going down to the store to get an ICEE. Those were the days! Before the plastic dome lids, before the spoon ends on the straws. Back then you had to have skill to drink an ICEE!! From what I remember it wasn't self serve back then. You would have to tell the cashier what size and flavor ICEE you wanted.

I don't remember MD 20/20 being involved in ICEE, but later in college some alcohol did sneak into the ICEEs so we would have something to drink in the dorm!
