Smarty Jones Loses!

Well, the famous Belmont Stakes is history, and the most talked about horse, Smarty Jones, didnt win the race as predicted. I've watched horse racing quite a bit, and I could see coming down the home stretch that old Smarty was in trouble. It's too bad, because there was a lot of attention and hype focused on Smarty, but often times in racing when a horse is predicted to win, he doesnt. Better luck, next time, Smarty. It was still an exciting race to watch.

i remember telling my friend at work that Smarty Jones wasnt going to win. every year it seems like some horse is so great and unbeatable, then they win the first 2 races of the Triple Crown, then lose in the 3rd one. next year, some horse will be hyped as well, only to lose in the Belmont.

Day late and 3 inches short. I mean a dollar short.

I was in a bar in Suburban Philly when this race took place. The bar was packed (didn't realize why until we got in there, and saw what was on all the televisions.) As Smarty Jones pulled out in front, most of the patrons were on their feet cheering. As the eventually winner closed in, you could see everyones body language change. When he lost the race, the bar went from crowded and so noisey you couldn't hear a thing anyone was saying, to much less crowded, and rather quiet (for a bar!). My date that night, who is from the Philly the area, made a good observation. Smarty Jones is just like any other Philly area sports team/figure. He got everyones hopes up, and let everyone down in the end.
