i have a question regarding smoking and tickling. not when you are being tickled of course. but if you smoke, how does that affect a tickle session? i dont know if this question has been asked before and if it has i'm sorry. i know you need all the air you can get to laugh and breathe so i was wondering how smoking plays in all of this? and remember i dont mean smoking while being tickled lol

Um...well, smoking is no good for you.
The Surgeon General says that it can cause emphazema, cancer, and/or lung disease.
Lungs need air to work properly.
Lungs play an important role during laughing.
Tickling causes laughter.
If the lungs don't have the capacity, then tickling sessions become really, really short, possibly accompanied by coughing and hacking.

I'd say smoking has an adverse effect on tickling.

As far as I know smoking doesn't have any specific or unique effect on tickling. However anything that affects your breathing and stamina will affect how intense a session you can physically handle. So that's yet another good reason to quit.

yes all those reasons would make it a good idea to quit... better buy that patch or inhaler soon

I remember one day, when I was back in the Navy, one of my friends was at morning chow, sporting a big scab under his eye. I asked him about it, and he told he he was riding a Long Island Railroad train with his girlfriend. They were horsing around, and he started tickling her. Too late he remembered she had a lit cigarette in her hands.

So, yes, I would think both actions are mutually exclusive.

Smoking = smell. And is thus unnatractive.

I won't tickle or even get close to anyone who smells like that. It's revolting, and to me a sign of weakness.

I'm not sure that it's especially helpful to characterize an addiction as weakness, Viper. To me, telling someone that they need to change something while at the same time deriding their ability to do so is counter-productive. Your mileage may vary.

To the sensation or the sensitivity of tickling there would be no effect. As for the laughing part you will have to take more breaks then your counterparts, because you will probably be hacking and coughing.

I made you laugh on the phone and you were hacking and coughing. Also it will be worse in the dry air of winter.

Quit cold turkey it's the BEST way!

ps this was more of a general question, not really talking about myself.

I'm sorry about that. I couldn't go into great detail, on the forum Izzy-buttons. :justlips:
But you smoke don't you? Then you ARE kinda talking about yourself. Aren't you?

I couldn't agree more, Great One. I have been trying to quit and it's the hardest thing I've ever done and I can believe how cigarettes get ahold of you but i'll break the chains yet. When you don't have enough wind to laugh at a simple joke you really would not last in a tickling session! C'mon Izzy , let's quit!

and ok kered its a deal. and thanks koocheekoo

I've become a good deal more ticklish since quitting smoking....especially my feet. My circulation has improved a considerable amount, and that really helped (or cursed, as I sometimes believe...lol) me regain some sensitivity to touch I lost some time ago.

It's really a great incentive to quit!

ditto here....it's just gotten to that point....it needs to be done. for starters, I went to phillipmorris.com and ordered that quit assist thingie. I've just been doing this for too long...it needs to stop!

Here's a trick: For those not into going cold turkey.
Learn to control your smoking instead of it controlling you.

Give yourself an idea of amount of cigs that you think you smoke per day. Then take a 1/4 of that away. (10 a day goes to 7 a day)
This will force your body not to grab one everytime you want to, but learn to put some will power behind it because you know you have a limited supply.
After you can go with that or less amount for awhile then do the same thing. Eventually you will learn to start controlling when you smoke and not letting it control you.

Just a suggestion

Glad I could help... :xpulcy: This still allows not to go into a nicotine fit but at the same time you still are slowly dimishing the desire.

smoking and tickling

Most of the salient points have been said, but let me dispell a few myths:

It is NOT true that smoking makes you "unticklish" so to speak (unless you were not that ticklish to start I suppose). BUT, it does inhibit your circulation (especially the hands and feet cf. Mimi's comments and the stepsister story above) as well as affect your pain receptors. And yep - those same nerves that carry pain sensation are the ones that carry the tickling sensation. Want to be a better lee? Quit smoking ASAP (rhyme unintentional).

It is NOT true that smokers can not go for long tickle sessions - some can, well at least for now. That said your stamina for tickling (as well as for athletic activities and sex - which for some of us are one and the same 🙂 ) WILL BE REDUCED. No doubt about it. Eventually when you develop emphysema, heart problems, etc. your ability to function as a ticklee will no doubt be severely hampered if not eliminated.

It is NOT true that all men who smoke are impotent. It IS true that they are at higher risk than nonsmokers and therefore well on their way. (I know that is not necessarily relevant to tickling but I am sure that to the guys this topic is always relelvant)

It is NOT true that you can smoke and not smell of it. Some people do a much better job than others of being discrete and hygenic about their tobacco smell for sure. But a nonsmoker without a cold who does not live with and work around smokers all the time can pick it up. Trust me on this one - you are fooling nobody.

It is NOT true that Marijuana smoke is not as bad for you as tobacco. It is different, that is for sure but the emphysema you get is much worse than what you get with tobacco. Not sure how MJ affects one's ticklishness but I would imagine it is a hindrance.

In short, tobacco is a habit which is not only expensive to your wallet and your health but may make you a less desirable tickler and definitely inhibit you ability to enjoy being a ticklee.

Five percent of us can quit cold turkey and walk away, the other 95% of us need help. See your doctor for assistance - aside from the people who truly love you, he/she is one of the only people who really wants you to quit. That said, you have to be the most determined of all to make it work and free yourself from being enslaved to tobacco (just as any other addictive substance).

Any questions, please feel free to PM me.

Not all doctors will give you any help until your diagnoste with a serious health problem.

depends on the doc

See a subspecialist (for example your dermatologist) and yeah, that's not their bag but your primary care physician (family practice or internal medicine physician) should be willing to help you, BUT YOU HAVE TO BE WILLING TO DO WHAT IT TAKES AND BE SERIOUS ABOUT QUITTING. They cannot quit for you, you have to do it for yourself and take responsibility for your own success or failure.

If your primary care doctor told you that you need a serious health condition to get help, tell them you already have one: you are addicted to a carcinogenic substance which promotes atherosclerotic disease (causes cancer and vascular problems). If this is not a serious illness to them, then get a new doctor PRONTO (and quack at them like a duck as you walk out the door)! If it is that you are not serious about quitting or are sporting the "nothing works for me" mentality then the problem is you not your doctor (that's not what ticklerguy said at all but I'm covering the bases for all readers as it takes all kinds to make a world).

If someone told you they were going to dock your paycheck until you found a serious reason not to or unless you insisted otherwise or asked someone else, would you just say "oh well, so they're taking money from my paycheck until I think of a reason why not"? Probably not. And your health cannot be replaced, the cash in your paycheck can be.

Here's to breathing easy!

I don't think thier is no risk if your a smoker and when your tickling some one at all. Well other then theses two facts that A) You will smell of cig smoke and stink B) Shortness of breath Other then thoses two reasons for tickling purposes only. Then if you smoke and tickle some one alot still even though your a smoker you should be ok. But smoking is sick and bad for you and a bad habit to start up anyways. Ask my Dad. He is 51 now and has a tough time even putting on his shoes and socks because of his lack of breath. But even secondhand smoke is still bad for you.
