Indeed, I'm glad I quit too. I do miss the rich taste of that beautiful first puff.. the sweet, full, warm feeling filling your lungs... the gorgeous nicotine rush as you exhale...

But, on the other hand, I like my food and breath not tasting like tar these days as well. 🙂

You ever notice it's always the exact word "quit" spammed all over these things? Never "stop", "finish" or "end". Always "quit".
I just find that irritating for some reason. That and people who think A) They're better than others for not smoking, and B) Everyone should stop smoking as well. If someone wants to smoke, let them. It's their body, and their right to do what they want with it.
Usually these are the same self-righteous folk that claim to be pro-abortion spouting "People should do what they want with their own bodies".
If that's the case, let smokers smoke.

I don't personally smoke, never have and never will. But if someone wants to, that's their decision.

I agree. I smoked for a long time and if someone else wants to smoke then I say let them. It would be hypocritical of me after all those years of lighting up to think myself better or above anyone else. But in my situation I quit. Abruptly. Urgently. From laying on the floor gasping for breath with the feeling my lungs were on fire. So I quit. Sudden and final. The whole story is in my blog so I won't retell it here.

So I don't see much rage coming at you and if there is then let them know I agree with you and will back an individual's right of choice.

But I did quit. LOL

I totally agree with that, I think smokers get a really hard time in the public eye and are treated as subhuman in some contexts. Fair enough, the threat of second hand smoke has been discovered as much more dangerous than originally thought in recent years but if it's not near you, who the hell are you to judge? We live in an increasingly stressful world and everyone has their own way of dealing with it: for some people it's living as healthily as possible, other people turn to more harmful vices but it's ultimately up to them. I remember when smoking indoors in public places was made illegal in the UK and several pro-smoker's rights groups formed, the amount of derision poured upon them was unbelievable, and if that same amount of derision had been leveled at any other group there would be uproar.

Interesting opinions here. Congratulations to those who gave up the habit.

I'm an occasional smoker in the sense that I smoke for a few months, give it up for a few months, etc... It's true that smokers have been given a tough time lately, like outdoor smoking bans and what have you. But living in a place with heavily taxed tobacco and universal health care, I have this take on it. Smokers here are paying in part for everyone to get free health care. I'm doing a good thing when I buy tobacco lol
