So how ticklish are you?

I don't know how much credit we can give to stories of tickling used in interrogations.

It would make sense, since torture was legally allowed, mandatory even, when dealing with slaves.
You wouldn't want to shred your chambermaid or a well-read secretary to ribbons for something minor as a misplaced pendant, so tickling could enter the picture.

But it's not something you readily find in academic libraries...
So I have to stand neutral on that. 😉

...

This Insabato guy, on the other hand, wrote a whole essay, telling how he got these inmates, had them restrained on beds, and went on to tickle them, jotting down their reactions.

His whole aim was demonstrating that madmen [and madwomen], being such, reacted in a weird fashion to tickling as well as to other physical stimuli.

The research isn't without credit, but he tried that on too small a number of subjects - in particular he only used two "normal" assistants as a basis to compare inmates' ticklishness with.

All in all, he seemed more sadistic than really concerned about neural conditions.

How old is this study? If I know anything about psychology, it's history isn't very pretty with their "studies" and "remedies" (ice baths, anyone?). From what I've read and have been told by other psychology majors, most of the studies were conducted in a sadistic nature.

I guess around 1920.

Sounds about right. Psychology in the 1920's was nearly torture without the label. It generally made patients incurably insane. Often the "patients" really weren't sufferers either, but things like shock treatment and ice baths made them significantly worse.

And they wonder why my online persona is a hollow suit of armour.
A guy's gotta get some protection.

True, yes, but c'mon! A little poke won't kill. Tickling's fun for me. I think that torture shit is horrible.

To be honest, there was no real concept of Psycology back then, such as mental ilnesses and such like.

Ah, it's not about ticklishness.
I just think I don't really exist online. I'm only casting the outward appearance of my inner self.

...

Plus, I like armours.

I like armour too 🙂 . I know its really common thanks to all these martial artsy type films, but I really love Japanese armour and weaponry, Naginatas, Katanas wakizashis and tantos, and all that jazz. 🙂

That's a whole topic of discussion all in itself. 😉

Such is the way of the avatar. Kalamos uses his avatar as a whole online persona, like I do sometimes, as opposed to just a little picture that identifies you.

And I don't want to steal your guys' thunder, now would I?

...

About armours... I'm more familiar with European suits.
I can trace armour evolution roughly from 500 BCE to 1500 CE.
Or BC, AD, if you are old school as I am.

Cripes, I need an avatar, then! I'm amazed by how many people in the world actually know better as the names I choose. But with a name like I have, it's hard to come up with a short name without sounding really stupid.

Kal, did you here about that discussion a while ago concerning BC? Apparently some museum, dont recall which off hand, wanted to abolish the usage of BC as a dating system, on account of it being Christian and offending other cultures. 😵

I live in Italy...
They are concerned with the oddest things.
Dating not being the weirdest.

...

As a curio info you're probably familiar with already: St Augustine's secretary, Paulinus from Milano, botched the calcs, and misplaced Jesus's birth by a few years.

So we are not really in 2005 AD.

...

And we need more infos on your name, Sapphire, to tell.

Yeah, we are out by 4 years I think, though can never remember which way.

Just how nerdy can we get, discussing of miscalculations in history?

...

I'm not even buying the stereotype!

This sure got off topic ... Not really sure what a discussion of imaginary armour has to do with ticklisness ... I will say the mental image of an empty helmet just tickles the shit out of *me* LOL
