So I got a question for the mods.

It may be enjoyable for those who get all the in-jokes, and who appreciate how much effort it takes to create a website.

All this talk about getting no recognition for creating something that really only served to amuse certain people on these forums in the first place. It's just silly.

I create music. I can spend hours and hours making one song, play it out when I'm djing and no one on the dancefloor seems to groove to it or like it.

I don't then stop the bloody music and demand that they appreciate the time and effort it took for me to make the song. And I also don't make a song to please a certain group who have come to see me play.

It's definately been implied.

Shit...never knew we had to wait 60 seconds between posts...

Woops...2 more seconds...

Nobody's demanding that everybody appreciate the joke. Just appreciate the forum and all that the mods do to keep it running.

If everybody on the dance floor started throwing tomatoes at you and booed and hissed, then might you have something to say to them?

I've seen no implications.

It must be like seeing Shemp.

Not everyone can see it.

:blaugh:

Yeah, I would, but it wouldn't be about the song anymore. It would be about them throwing tomatoes at me and fucking up my equipment.

Then I'd most definately have something to say about it.

Crystallight...all the posts I've read talking about how the mods deserve recognition for what they do, the work they put into shit, the effort that was made for your lil gay ACF nonsense. Yes, it's not like there is a demand for recognition, I'm sorry not not picking my words to suit the dictionary for exclusives...but it is without a doubt implied.

heh.

Moderators never imply or even slightly lead anyone here towards wanting recognition.

The only people who claim they deserve it are those of us who appreciate what they do and really just want to say thanks.

:veryhappy

Which is what I said, eh?

Okay, I know y'all are going to say that it's just because he's my boyfriend, but I support Brandin on this post 100%. While I was not here when this whole thing happened, I have to say that I'm glad I wasn't. From what I've read, the entire forum was shut down, people were unable to log in. As a prank. Now, I have a good sense of humor, and would normally find something like this somewhat funny. Or any prank for that matter. But this isn't one of them. I have limited internet access. I'm sure I'm not the only one here. For people like myself, when you're trying to get on, it IS a major inconvenience. I have other things I could be doing, sure. But I do like to set aside some time to see what my friends here are up to. This place is place for me to socialize in a more indirect way. It's also a place where I don't have to feel embarassed. But if this forum is going to have some "pranks" that cause me to be unable to do what I need to do within my accessable time period then I just wasted my time. I don't want to do that. Like Brandin, I'm not so sure I want to be a part of this community anymore. I do have a suggestion, though. At least post something saying that the prank will happen. That way, newcomers can know that it can happen.

I agree completely about having limited time/access to do things you want to do. Which is why I said in my post on here that the forum has a member base of 50,000+ and the 8 or 10 people wanted to mess with 2 of their friends, That's 12 or so people messing with each other in a forum of 50k+. Yes, I understand not everyone who is a member posts. Even if 7,500 people post that's still 12 or so people stopping those 7,500 from using it. But it was only 2 hours. So, I still stand by my other statement. Come back when it's over. MTP Jeff said they were talking about making it every year on the july 4th weekend. There's your time frame. Plan on not using it for that time frame.

Well, Xionking, if I may bring my own opinion into focus: I'm certainly not demanding anything, or suggesting that anybody should demand anything or that anybody should feel a demand to do anything...but...

...if you wrote a song for a group of people and then had to hear some people call it dumb, I would be of the opinion that those people were committing an act of unkindness against you.

I am, moreover, of the opinion that the parody that the mods put up was a creative effort designed to be entertaining to everybody, analogous to you writing a song, and that the people who are complaining about it are committing the same kind of unkindness against them that people would be committing against you if they called a song you wrote dumb.

I would hope that nobody would confuse an opinion on my part that you're being unkind with a demand that you conform to me. But I am of the opinion that you and some others here are being unkind by not giving the mods at least some acknowledgement that they put effort into a creative work for the entertainment benefit of all. I further regard the moderators as altruistic volunteers who have been giving something away to all of us for free right along, out of the goodness of their hearts, and who frequently get treated as if they were opportunistic operators who had been exploiting and victimizing us instead. I don't think any of us, including myself, take as much time as we should to say thank you to the people who are giving us all this. By the way, mods who are reading this post: Thank you.

Is this a demand for conformity? No. Is it an expression of regret that others don't see things as I do? You might say so. Do I believe myself to be absolutely right? Of course. But since all I have the power to do with my sense of rightness is take up a few inches of space on a board with my post, I hope I haven't been too much of a burden to society by doing so.

Okay, that's all for now. Carry on, my friends.

You don't think that getting mad because you can't do what you want is a little selfish?

Again, if the TMF is so crucial to you that it being down was a "massive inconvenience," whether down for maintenance or a prank, you may want to reevaluate your priorities.

From those I've spoken with, it seems they see the joke as something that was meant to amuse the folks that were in on it. The "inner circle", if you prefer. They're not buying that it was for "all of us". I really don't buy it either.

If a prank is being pulled and only a few people are in on it or even understand it, how amusing is the prank? I don't know the girls involved, so I didn't understand what was happening.

I still don't get it really. Oh well.

Yeah, a mod could have just made a thread named "Love these two chicks!!! They're Awesome!!!" or maybe every member could have been PM'ed the message. Pics could have been attached to either of course. That would have been a lot easier haha.

Ahhh, that's the thing, you didn't know who they were, but now you do haha. We must all know the two chicks!!! haha

I agree with what Mistress Aura said as well. (Page 4)

You can feel however you want to feel about this people but some of us who are not in the "inner circle" still found this funny.

I to my knowledge am not in an "inner circle" and likely am about as far removed from such a circle as one can be but I found the prank hysterical. :jester:

That's fine. If you found it funny, I have no beef with that. I just have trouble with it being presented as a "gift" (or whatever you want to call it) to the entire TMF. I don't buy it for a second. They had to be aware that not everyone on the TMF would find it amusing. If they didn't, they're kidding themselves.

No, I think it's possible they didn't see this reaction coming.

I myself can't imagne why people don't find this funny but I accept that they don't and the reason
I don't understand why is because my world view is coloured by my silly sense of humour.

If the MODs and or ADMINs had a sense of humour like that then maybe they just didn't see this backlash coming.

I agree to an extent. I think all involved are very much surprised by the backlash. I do think that they expected that there'd be a some annoyance amongst other members, though. For the record, I realize they meant no harm. I simply believe that the entire concept was flawed from the start. Definitely not my cup of tea.

For my part, the only inconvenience I suffered was that, after reading Maniac Tickler's latest brilliant gem in the P&R forum explaining how messed up all of us America-hating libs are, I had to wait a couple of hours before I could lob a response at him. I did worry that he might miss me, so I put up a post assuring him I was still by his side, but I doubt he saw that one because it was like ten minutes later that the forum was back to its regular self.

I do find it interesting, though, that it's generated so much discussion. Ironically, I think for some it probably felt like a form of tickle-teasing, as in, seeing the kinked-up board and not wondering when the real one would be back is a little analogous to being tied down spreadeagle and not knowing which ticklish spot those wiggling hands are going to land on next. Think about it before you dismiss it.

Even if that was true, I stand by what I said.

Oh mi gowd.

The complaints have been going on longer then the prank itself.

Let it go. You have your forum back, Geez. 🙄

People have a right to keep talking about it if they want, CL. There are folks who missed the event but still have their thoughts on it. There are others who just need to vent for their own reasons. BrightEyes, I noticed before that you mentioned it may be selfish for folks to get mad because they couldn't get what they wanted. By that statement, I could argue that it was selfish for a very small number of people out of thousands to hijack the entire site for their own purposes. It goes both ways.

Kid, I know you didn't have any part in making "ACF" day, but being one of the aggrandized ones and then telling people to stop complaining about it walks you into a bit of a tar pit.

Member's reactions to this were earned.

You have the right to say whatever you like, and if you wish, you may continue telling people to stop complaining with my blessing, but you might find it more conducive to your ends to just let people have their say, offer no pressure against it, and it'll probably burn out on its own eventually, for absence of something to rail against.

But preaching "Conform, bow down or get out!" to those who want to find their own place, to be heard and to be accepted in this community without standing in the shadows is absolutely incorrect, and I for one am horrified that any member to this forum, new or seasoned, would be given that idea.*
* Emphasis added.

No offense, but I get an inkling that you'd like it to die since you had a part in it. I hear where you're coming from, dude, but also, at this point, it's probably a bit of a drag on CL that people are griping about something that centered on her, but that she had no part in orchestrating. It's kind of a bummer hearing a bunch of people gripe with your name tied up in the middle of it, when you didn't organize the thing they're griping about. She's got feelings, too. Do as you will -- but I'm just sayin'... Y'know?
