So now I have an excuse.

hey viper. i know what you are going through. I myself have been diagnosed with this ( though the specialist says for me, surgery isn't an option with as bad as i've got it). PM me if you want to talk.

Some part of you must be thinking, "I am a genius! My brain is too big for any mere mortal skull! Shredder?! Bring me my robot body!"

Seriously, though, I hope you get the best possible results from treatment. Good luck with everything!

Dang Mark, that is rough. At least you know what is going on, and what can be done about it. All the best to you bro.

Wait, what?

Hang on Doogie, the older doctors will take great care of you :redheart:

I'm very sorry to hear this, but so pleased it's been properly diagnosed and will be dealt with, love to you both :cuddle:

Thanks again, all.

Bella, the range of emotions I went through was rather astonishing. When I was told over the phone, I was sitting at one of my vanilla job clients. For about a second, I had this flash of blind panicked terror. Since that doesn't help anything, I made sure to calm down and try not to think, "SHITIHAVECANCERSHITIHAVECANCERSHITIHAVECANCER." When I made it back to my car and did some research on my phone about the condition, and found that it was fairly benign, treatable, and recoverable, I was so excited I couldn't help but crank the stereo in the car and flip out.

Man up....rub some dirt on it and you'll be fine. 😉

You'll be alright 🙂

Wait a minute?! They told you this over the phone...and didn't explain what it was???? What an asshole doctor! Sucks you had to deal with that!

Well, it was the doctor's assistant who called me, and I was in the middle of working with a client. I made a snap decision to tell her thank you and basically hang up. I had to focus on making sure I got my client taken care of - as much as I needed to know what the problem was, it wouldn't get any worse in the half hour it'd take to finish with my client. Of course, that didn't really stop the mild panic in the back of my head, but it helped me finish out the workday.

So, I received the final report from my neurologist regarding this whole bitch. Also, I have been given a CD with the images of my brainz.

I know this is all very personal information, but I want to share it with those who care, hoping someone may do a better job of translating it than I've done.

The Final MRI Report said:
FINDINGS:

The cerebellar tonsils protrude markedly inferior to the foramen magnum and demonstrate an abnormal peg-like appearance. The tonsils protrude approximately 3cm below the foramen magnum. There is mass effect and distortion of the cervicomedullary junction. There is a 5mm x 4mm central cavity in the upper cervical spinal cord at the level of C2-C3. There is no abnormal associated enhancement within the posterior fossa, cervicomedullary junction, or superior aspect of the cervical spinal cord. The cerebellar vermis is present. The supratentorial midline and other structures are unremarkable.

There is no restricted diffusion to suggest acute infarction. There is no abnormal enhancement. There is no hydrocephalus. The sella is unremarkable. Vascular flow-voids are intact at the skull base. Calvarium and extracranial soft tissues are within normal limits. There is mild mucosal thickening within the paranasal sinuses.

This is the actual MRI image that shows the best picture of my brain and the associated malformation. The disc comes with a measurement tool which I've used to highlight the malformation itself.

Basically, what I can figure out from this whole thing is that the only real problems are the extension of the cerebellar tonsils (the highlighted thingie in the pic above) and the possibility of a syrinx (syr·inx (sîrngks) ~ n. ~ A pathological tube-shaped cavity in the brain or spinal cord) which may be full of cerebrospinal fluid, indicating a blockage or restriction of flow through my spine.

This is so tiring, and I haven't even gotten to the damned surgery yet.

I wish you all the best Viper, as far as insane....I have seen you come a long way despite whatever is going on. As far as I am concerned you are a wonderful person, crazy yes...but enjoyable! Have good thoughts coming your way!

I'm no expert. But, having seen my brother suffer with a blockage effecting the spinal cord (his was in the lumbar region at the waistline), I know it can create havoc with the entire body. Where this is located must be even worse than my brother dealt with. Be sure you get a second opinion, as I said before. But, I wouldn't put it off if you can help it.

😱

I think that's only gonna work if he's managed to figure out how to open and close his skull like a tupperware.

Otherwise, he'll just have a dirty head.

And his mind is dirty enough, is it not?

Man up....rub some dirt on it and you'll be fine. 😉

You'll be alright 🙂

Christopher

I'm sorry to hear this Viper. Any brain surgery would create some anxiety for me!! :panic: I'm glad to hear this isn't rare so your surgeons will be experienced.
I hope you can keep your spirits up and wish you a speedy recovery..:grouphug:

When I read this, I was thinking "God, he must have a big ass cerebellum for it to get squished against the brainstem, and then I see the MRI pictures and a different thought comes to mind:

"Jesus Chrust, how fucking THICK is the back of your head?!"

I'm looking at that picture and I can't imagine anybody having an occipital plate or a trapezius that big but goddamn if I ain't lookin' at a meaty-ass neck that's pushing your brain down! Have you tried asking the doc what the hell is all that shit along the back of your head?

...

You've always been a bit out of the ordinary. But that's what I love about you. I'll always be here, next to and slightly behind. :lover:

Big brain weighing everything down eh?

Seriously, glad they finally figured out what was going on... Good luck with everything dude!

While I am wishing you all the best and hope for nothing but good news regarding this matter in the future, you should know that I now have a picture of your brain, and Photoshop.

Snail Shell

I think the most fucked up part about that, Snail, is that I gave you both.
