Words... a picture is worth a thousand.

To quote Cher "Words are like weapons, they wound sometimes."

I give you my word. My word is my bond. The word of God.

Words can inspire, provoke, elate. So give me your favorite "word" phrase.

(I'm in a pissy/angry/shitty mood... so humor me if you will. But please, don't tell me to "get over it" - because it's NOT just a word. Cancer is just a word. It carries a lot of weight and a lot of fear and a lot of different meaning to different folks. I can rant in French...and it probably won't make me less angry, nor will it phase me because it's not my mother tongue. But if I rant in English...:hysteriatrain:)

Depends.. how is one expressing it? What does their body language say?

It's like saying, "No, i'm not offended at all." -- While you have tears running down your face.

Or,

"That didn't make me mad!" -- While burying a knife into a vital organ of the person you are speaking at.

If you can't SEE their face or HEAR how they are phrasing it.. then you've got to go off how well you know the person and their mannerisms.

If they are a stranger, you're shooting in the dark.

If they are a close friend, you'll have a better chance at analyzing the situation and determining in what manner they meant whatever it was they said.

I totally agree... and that's one of the major problems with today's communication - electronic formats don't allow for inflection or any other hints/cues that will let you read the other person's meaning. Sometimes, I take things literally or seriously that were totally meant in jest. I'm human. Sue me. Oh, and I OVER analyze everything 😛

Oh, and I OVER analyze everything 😛

It's not a bad thing.

In my opinion.

Because when you are left to only text to read, the need to have to analyze it comes into play and you're left to your own devices and whether or not you can take the other person at their word.

It's a slippery slope. But if you're established pretty strongly with the other person, it shan't be that hard to figure it out.

Shan't... I love that word. Pick your favorite word... or contraction 🙂

I agree, the more firmly established the relationship, the more likely you can read between the lines so to speak. But I can think circles around the same thing ad nauseum. And end up back where I started (that's what happens when you use non-linear logic lol).

I like shan't too. And words like fourscore, fortnight, henceforth and forsooth. People do tend to give you funny looks if you actually use them however. 😀

My favourite word used to be NO because I thought that no other word gave me the freedom to be myself and to protect what is mine from those who would take it from me. But time passes one grows older and wiser and now I feel I should be saying YES a lot more.

One should always strike a balance between yes and no. When I was younger I said yes far too often. Learning how to say no has served me well.

Yeah or Nay... that is the question.

I like scientific words like dessicated and inspissated. Oh, and smokinj's exsanguinated...but I prefer my patients keep all their blood 🙂

I don't think I could pick a single favorite word. But, here's one...

"Friend"

Who goes there? Friend or foe?

No longer servants but friends.

The friend is the man who knows all about you, and still likes you. ~Elbert Hubbard, The Notebook, 1927

The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart. ~Elisabeth Foley

One's friends are that part of the human race with which one can be human. ~George Santayana

A friend knows the song in my heart and sings it to me when my memory fails. ~Donna Roberts

True friendship comes when silence between two people is comfortable. ~Dave Tyson Gentry

Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art.... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival. ~C.S. Lewis

(Hope you're in better spirits, my friend!)

Thanks, Ann.... I needed a "friendly" reminder of what's important. You gave me inspiration and less vitriol 🙂

Oh, btw, the quote by Donna Roberts I've seen adapted to cats 😉:dancingkitty:

You're welcome. And..... PURRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Word of the day yesterday: Yack (as in the dog yacked it up) 🙂 Gotta love those nice, descriptive terms.

Sometimes words can cause more pain than actual physical contact, and they can be harder to heal.
