In 1901, Nikola Tesla, along with the financial backing of J.P. Morgan built the gargantuan Wardenclyffe Tower in Shoreham. N.Y. to better compete, and beat, Guglielmo Marconi in the field of wireless transmission. Although the public story was that it was meant to transmit radio (and even an early form of facsimile) to England, the realty was far more fascinating. Tesla planned to transmit electrical power through the very ionosphere, making global access to information and energy a reality. Milagros was on hand to help with complex calculations the night of the secretive first test, but when the massive Tesla Coil charged up and explosively released its electrical arc, it lit up the sky and thundered so loudly that sheep on farms for hundred miles around lost their bowels. Milagros insisted that the tests be banned immediately and the tower closed, so fearing he that nervous sheep would not be able to produce the sweet milk required for his beloved Manchego Cheese.

And that is why we don't have global wireless power transmission today.
