Songs that can move you to tears

Winter Time, Steve Miller

In the Winter time... when all the leaves are brown... and the wind bloooooooooows.... and the birds have all flown from the summer....

I'm callin... here me callin... here me caaaaalllin

In the winter time 🙂

The song that was playing in the background of the movie, "Brian's Song". "If the hands of time, were hands that I could hold, I'd keep them warm and in my hands they'd not grow cold..." It was an instrumental version in the movie, nevertheless it sucks the tears out of my eyes like a Dirt Devil sucks out dirt from the carpet.

"What'll I Do", by Irving Berlin. Most any version will move Me to tears, especially Linda Ronstadt's version, in the "What's New" album. The song was the unofficial theme song to Robert Evans' 'The Kid Stays in the Picture'.

A while ago, at a function I was at, a DJ played "I Wanna know What Love Is", by Foreigner. And all of a sudden the ladies started crying. I had to get out of there, before I became misty-eyed😀

Ten years ago, I was making a compilation tape and put that song on it. As I listened to the song, a strange feeling came over me. I think I may have cried, too. Later that night, my Aunt passed away... no warning or anything. To this day, when I hear that song I think of her.

that was a beautiful story, Frankie.

Thanks, Crydun. December 19th will be the ten year anniversary of her passing. I'll play that song in her memory.

"Learning How To Love Again" by John Hiatt. Outstanding ballard about "starting over" in your life.

Any song that this exotic dancer that I was madly in love with (still am) used to dance to:

Mama I'm Coming Home - Ozzy Osbourne
Love of a Lifetime - Firehouse (just tears my heart out)
Always A Woman - Billy Joel (this one is bad for me too)
Take the Long Way Home - Supertramp
Don't Treat Me Bad & All She Wrote - both by Firehouse
What's Up - 4 Non Blondes (really bad for me)

:sadcry: 🙁 :sadcry: 🙁 :sadcry: 🙁

Angel-Judas Priest
Hard Luck Woman-KISS
Beth-KISS
Hurt-Johnny Cash
Angie-The Rolling Stones
Yesterday-The Beatles
Time Of Your Life-Green Day :dropatear

Several from the Irish tenor repertoire...Danny Boy, of course (I like John Gary's version). Also Frank Patterson singing The Fields of Athenry and The Lass of Aughrim.

Lots of Sinatra, but especially one called Angel Eyes from his album Only the Lonely. ("S'cuse me....while I disappear.")

Also The Far Side Banks of Jordan by the Carter Family. (It's on the soundtrack of Robert Duvall's movie The Apostle.)

Poems,prayers and promises-john denver

wind beneath my wings-

Once,twice,three times a lady-lionel ritchie

Wow....a lot:

Love Me - Colin Ray
Where've You Been - Kathy Mattea
Can't Cry Hard Enough - Williams Brothers
Honestly - Stryper
My Immortal - Evanescence
Baby of Mine - Allison Krause
Gods Will - Martina McBride
Yesterday - The Beatles
I Hope You Dance - Lee Ann Womack
The Dance - Garth Brooks
If I Had Only Known - Reba McEntire
Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word - Elton John
Something to Believe In - Poison
Ships - Barry Manilow (yeah, wanna make sumthin of it??)
Superstar - Carpenters
You and Me - Alice Cooper

And the biggest tear jerker I've ever heard in my life:

Concrete Angel - by Martina McBride

She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holdin' back
Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with linen and lace

The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
Bearing the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never born

Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel

Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes it'll be too late

Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel

A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot

Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel

The lyrics alone can make you cry. If you've never heard this song, I HIGHLY recommend it:

Omg!!!

That John Denver song (the second version) describes my life.

I’ve been lately thinking
About my life’s time
All the things I’ve done
And how it’s been
And I can’t help believing
In my own mind
I know I’m gonna hate to see it end

I’ve seen a lot of sunshine
Slept out in the rain
Spent a night or two all on my own
I’ve known my lady’s pleasures
Had myself some friends
And spent a time or two in my own home

And I have to say it now
It’s been a good life all in all
It’s really fine
To have a chance to hang around
And lie there by the fire
And watch the evening tire
While all my friends and my special lady
Sit and watch the sun go down

And talk of poems and prayers and promises
And things that we believe in
How sweet it is to love someone
How right it is to care
How long it’s been since yesterday
And what about tomorrow
And what about our dreams
And all the memories we share

The days they pass so quickly now
Nights are seldom long
And time around me whispers when it’s cold
The changes somehow frighten me
Still I have to smile
It turns me on to think of growing old
For though my life’s been good to me
There’s still so much to do
So many things my mind has never known
I’d like to raise a family
I’d like to sail away
And dance across the mountains on the moon

I have to say it now
It’s been a good life all in all
It’s really fine
To have the chance to hang around
And lie there by the fire
And watch the evening tire
While all my friends and my special lady
Sit and watch the sun go down

And talk of poems and prayers and promises
And things that we believe in
How sweet it is to love someone
How right it is to care
How long it’s been since yesterday
What about tomorrow
What about our dreams
And all the memories we share

I believe I have mentioned this song before, and I will mention it again: I highly recommend as a good tearjerker "Dance With My Father" by the late great Luther Vandross....

For Your Eyes Only - Sheena Easton
Only because its another song that reminds me of when I started going to this gentleman's club about 12 years ago. It was such a fun time in my life, and I met the most wonderful woman in the world. God I'd do anything to go back to those days. :dropatear

Flies on the Butter (You Can't Go Home Again) by Wynonna

especially this section:

There's a black top road,
a faded yellow centerline
It can take you back to the place
but it can't take ya back in time....

I'm only 29 now.... but I tear up every time I hear that song..
