I've noticed lately that there have been a couple songs that have REALLY touched me....you know - full tears, that desperate ache, a need to reach out and talk with someone, a desire to change the world and make it a better place...that sort of thing. Has anybody else experienced that over the past few months or so?

In my case, coincidentally, all the songs that have produced this emotional movement in me lately have been country songs, but that's certainly not always the case. They've just been putting out some real heart stoppers over the past year or two.

Share your songs here! I've got a few, so I'll start this thread off with a couple posts of my own. All these songs I highly recommend for listening to, as well. They really gotta be heard to be appreciated, but for the purpose of this thread, the lyrics will have to do. 😉

First one...

Concrete Angel - By Martina McBride

She walks to school with a lunch she packed
nobody knows what she's holding back
wearing the same dress she wore yesterday
she hides the bruises with the linen and lace

The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
it's hard to see the pain behind the mask
bearing the burden of a secret storm
sometimes she wishes she was never born

Through the wind
and the rain
she stands hard as a stone
in a world that she can't rise above
but her dreams
give her wings
and she flies to a place where she's loved
concrete angel

Somebody cries in the moon of the night
the neighbors hear but they turn out the light
a fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
when morning comes it'll be too late

Through the wind
and the rain
she stands hard as a stone
in a world that she can't rise above
but her dreams
give her wings
and she flies to a place where she's loved
concrete angel

A statue stands in a shaded place
an angel girl with a nocturn face
a name is written on a polished rock
a broken heart that the world forgot

Through the wind
and the rain
she stands hard as a stone
in a world that she can't rise above
but her dreams
give her wings
and she flies to a place where she's loved
concrete angel

Song #2

God's Will - By Martina McBride

I met God's Will on a Halloween night
He was dressed as a bag of leaves
It hid the braces on his legs at first

His smile was as bright as the August sun
When he looked at me
As he struggled down the driveway, it almost
Made me hurt

Will don't walk too good
Will don't talk too good
He won't do the things that the other kids do,
In our neighborhood

I've been searchin', wonderin', thinkin'
Lost and lookin' all my life
I've been wounded, jaded, loved and hated
I've wrestled wrong and right
He was a boy without a father
And his mother's miracle
I've been readin', writin', prayin', fightin'
I guess I would be still
Yeah, that was until
I knew God's Will

Will's mom had to work two jobs
We'd watch him when she had to work late
And we'd all laugh like I hadn't laughed
Since I don't know when

Hey Jude was his favorite song
At dinner he'd ask to pray
And then he'd pray for everybody in the world but him

I've been searchin', wonderin', thinkin'
Lost and lookin' all my life
I've been wounded, jaded, loved and hated
I've wrestled wrong and right
He was a boy without a father
And his mother's miracle
I've been readin', writin', prayin', fightin'
I guess I would be still
Yeah, that was until
I knew God's Will

Before they moved to California
His mother said, they didn't think he'd live
And she said each day that I have him, well it's just
another gift
And I never got to tell her, that the boy
Showed me the truth
In crayon red, on notebook paper, he'd written
Me and God love you

I've been searchin', prayin', wounded, jaded
I guess I would be still
Yeah that was until...
I met God's Will on a Halloween night
He was dressed as a bag of leaves

Song #3

How Do You Get That Lonely - By Blaine Larson

It was just another story written on the second page
Underneath the Tiger's football score
It said he was only eighteen, a boy about my age
They found him face down on the bedroom floor

There'll be services on Friday at the Lawrence Funeral Home
Then out on Mooresville highway, they'll lay him 'neath a stone...

How do you get that lonely, how do you hurt that bad
To make you make the call, that havin' no life at all
Is better than the life that you had
How do you feel so empty, you want to let it all go

How do you get that lonely... and nobody know

Did his girlfriend break up with him, did he buy or steal that gun?
Did he lose a fight with drugs or alcohol?
Did his Mom and Daddy forget to say I love you son?
Did no one see the writing on the wall?

I'm not blamin' anybody, we all do the best we can
I know hindsight's 20/20, but I still don't understand...

How do you get that lonely, how do you hurt that bad
To make you make the call, that havin' no life at all
Is better than the life that you had
How do you feel so empty, you want to let it all go
How do you get that lonely... and nobody know

It was just another story printed on the second page
Underneath the Tiger's football score...

Song #4 (this one is a bit more uplifting 😉 )

Live Like You Were Dying - By Tim McGraw

He said: "I was in my early forties,
"With a lot of life before me,
"An' a moment came that stopped me on a dime.
"I spent most of the next days,
"Looking at the x-rays,
"An' talking 'bout the options an' talkin’ ‘bout sweet time."
I asked him when it sank in,
That this might really be the real end?
How’s it hit you when you get that kind of news?
Man whatcha do?

An' he said: "I went sky diving, I went rocky mountain climbing,
"I went two point seven seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu.
"And I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter,
"And I gave forgiveness I'd been denying."
An' he said: "Some day, I hope you get the chance,
"To live like you were dyin'."

He said "I was finally the husband,
"That most the time I wasn’t.
"An' I became a friend a friend would like to have.
"And all of a sudden goin' fishin’,
"Wasn’t such an imposition,
"And I went three times that year I lost my Dad.
"Well, I finally read the Good Book,
"And I took a good long hard look,
"At what I'd do if I could do it all again,
"And then:

"I went sky diving, I went rocky mountain climbing,
"I went two point seven seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu.
"And I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter,
"And I gave forgiveness I'd been denying."
An' he said: "Some day, I hope you get the chance,
"To live like you were dyin'."

Like tomorrow was a gift,
And you got eternity,
To think about what you’d do with it.
An' what did you do with it?
An' what can I do with it?
An' what would I do with it?

"Sky diving, I went rocky mountain climbing,
"I went two point seven seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu.
"And then I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter,
"And I watched Blue Eagle as it was flyin'."
An' he said: "Some day, I hope you get the chance,
"To live like you were dyin'."

Okay, I'm done for now. I'll post more later if I think of em! In the meantime, either check out and enjoy a good cry to the ones I've posted, or share your own!

Mimi 🙂

Mimi, sometimes the guitar solo in a song can say more than words. I bought the CD "Mountain Climbing" by Mountain a week ago and I kept replaying this song over and over again. The lead singer of this song was Felix Pappalardi, who also played bass and produced not only this album, but all of Cream's albums. He was shot to death in 1983, which makes the sound of his beautiful voice all the more poignant... but the guitar solo... man, I wish there was a way to play that song here.

"Theme For An Imaginary Western"
Written by: J. Bruce-P. Brown
Performed by: MOUNTAIN

When the wagons leave the city
For the forest and further on
Painted wagons of the morning
Dusty roads where they have gone
Sometimes traveling to the darkness
Met the summer coming home
Falling faces by the wayside
Looked as if they might have known

Oh, the sun was in their eyes
And the desert that dries
In the country town
Where the laughter sounds

All the dancing and the singing
All the music when they played
All the fires that they started
And all the girls with no regrets

Sometimes they found it, sometimes they kept it
Often lost it along the way
Fought each other to posses it
Sometimes died in sight of day.

Oh, the sun was in their eyes
And the desert that dries
In the country town
Where the laughter sounds

Letters From Home by John Michael Montgomery. I have a co-worker who is right now in Iraq and I think about him when I hear that song.

Mimi that first song had me in tears just from reading the words - I SO identify with that.

The song that always gets me is Smile sung by good old Nat King Cole

Well there is a song that always touches me when i hear it. When i sing karaoke, now a days its hard to even get through it. It was my very first song i sang and to this day, it still holds a place to my heart. Heres to my dad.

AND THE CATS IN THE CRADLE, AND THE SILVER SPOON,
LITTLE BOY BLUE AND THE MAN IN THE MOON.
WHEN YOU COMING HOME DAD I DONT KNOW WHEN,
BUT WILL GET TOGETHER THEN, SON,
WE'RE GONNA HAVE A GOOD TIME THEN.

And for those who knw the song, when i sing it, i changed the last verse for him:

ITS BEEN SOME YEARS AGO, WHEN MY DAD PASSED AWAY,
THERE WAS SO MUCH MORE TO HIM I HAD TO SAY.
I REALLY LIKE TO SEE YOU FOR ONE MORE TIME,
THE ONLY WAY I CAN IS INSIDE MY MIND.

SEE I MISS YOU SO MUCH, WE HAD MORE TO DO
BUT ITS SURE NICE TALKING TO YOU DAD, OH ITS SURE NICE TALKING TO YOU.

AND WHEN I LOOK IN THE SKY IT OCCURS TO ME,
YOUR SMILING DOWN AT ME.
AND THIS SONG,
IS FOR YOU AND ME.

Every anniversary of his death and his birthday, i sing it and it is getting harder to get through it every time.

rest in peace dad. Love ya always

Hey, tell me about it.......

...I know that feeling, the theme from "The Dam Busters" never fails to bring a tear to my eye.

Ballad of the Easy Rider by Roger McGuinn

The river flows
It flows to the sea
Wherever that river goes
That's where I want to be
Flow river flow
Let your waters wash down
Take me from this road
To some other town

All he wanted
Was to be free
And that's the way
It turned out to be
Flow river flow
Let your waters wash down
Take me from this road
To some other town

Flow river flow
Past the shaded tree
Go river, go
Go to the sea
Flow to the sea

The river flows
It flows to the sea
Wherever that river goes
That's where I want to be
Flow river flow
Let your waters wash down
Take me from this road
To some other town

Bless the Broken Road: By Rascal Flatts
Spend My Time: Clint Black

These songs really touch me. Personal reasons really.

I just can't stay away from Mimi's thread.

This song speaks volumes to me, and I don't even understand French. I had Kitten translate it for me. It's a very sad song with an even sadder melody. The singer's name is Francoise Hardy and she's been a successful French singer since the early 1960s. If you ever get a chance to hear this, I think you'll agree that it's simply beautiful.

"Rendez-Vous D'Automne"

1966 (Paroles:- Jean-Max Rivière, Musique:- Gérard Bourgeois)

comme s'en vont les nuages
sur le gris bleu de la mer
notre amour est à l'orage
et mon coeur est à l'envers

tout ce que la vie nous donne
aujourd'hui, je l'ai perdu
par ce rendez-vous d'automne
où tu n'es jamais venu ...

je la dois à ton oubli
cette larme sur ma joue
ce n'est rien qu'un peu de pluie
le vent effacera tout ...

quel chemin pourrais-je prendre
pour me détacher de toi
qui n'a pas su me comprendre
quand tu étais près de moi

mais pendant que tourbillonne
le moindre de mes regrets
toutes les feuilles frissonnent
et s'envolent à jamais ...

je la dois à ton oubli
cette larme sur ma joue
ce n'est rien qu'un peu de pluie
le vent effacera tout

mais plus le temps nous sépare
plus il me laisse à penser
qu'il reste de notre histoire
à peine de quoi pleurer

Mimi...glad to see another fan of country music. The new one by Blaire Larson gets me everytime...and usually when I'm driving to work!

But I also lost it on this one:

Steve Azar's "Waitin' on Joe"

We're supposed to start work down on the river today.
And for Joe and me, it's some pretty good pay.
Now, I was countin' on him
To be at the dock by ten.
A week's pay says he's still at home,
'Cause the boy's in his own time zone

I'm a waitin' on Joe, whaddya know.
Time flies fast and he is slower than a.....
I told him over and over: "Now don't you be late."
Ah, but like always,
I'm just sittin' on go,
And waitin' on Joe.
Yeah.

Towboat's a leavin' 'cause it don't care.
What's not on board and who's not there.
Once that whistle blows,
Down the mighty river it rolls.
Man if I could be more like that,
I'd get on with my life and never look back.

Instead of waitin' on Joe, whaddya know.
Time flies fast and he is slower than a.....
I told him over and over: "Now don't you be late."
Ah, but like always,
I'm just sittin' on go,
And waitin' on Joe.
Waitin' on Joe.

And he's in a hurry,
'Cause he's runnin' behind.
Now I'm not one to worry,
But I've got a real bad feeling this time.
Oh, oh, oh, whoa.

'Cause sirens are crying all through this town.
And one old boy said Joe never slowed down.
It was that 12 O'clock train,
So he didn't feel a thing,
Lord,. I believe that my brother's all right,
Still I'm prayin' he'll just give me a sign.

Yeah, I'm a-waitin' on Joe, whaddya know.
Time flies fast and he is slower than a.....
I told him over and over: "Now don't you be late."
Ah, but like always,
I'm just sittin' on go,
And waitin' on Joe.
Waitin' on Joe.

And another "Joe" song - sung by Trisha Yearwood, written by Vince McLamed/Greg Barnhill:

Walkaway Joe

Trisha Yearwood and Don Henley

Mama told her baby,
"Girl, take it real slow."
Girl told her mama,
"Hey, I really gotta go.
"He's waitin' in the car."
Mama said,
"Girl, you won't get far."

This is the story of an average Jane,
Ninety miles an hour down a lover's lane
On a tank of dreams.
Oh, if she could have only seen.
But fates got plans that it don't wanna show 'cause. . .

That boy's just a Walkaway Joe,
Born to be a leaver.
Tell you from the word "go,"
Destined to deceive her.
He's the wrong kind of paradise.
She's gonna know it in a matter of time.
That boy's just a Walkaway Joe.

Just a little while into Abilene,
He pulls into a station and he robs it clean.
She's waitin' in the car
Underneath the Texaco star.

She only wanted love,
Never bargained for this.
She can't help but love him for the way he is.
She's only seventeen,
And there ain't no reasoning.
So she'll ride this ride
As far as it will go, but. . .

That boy's just a Walkaway Joe,
Born to be a leaver.
Tell you from the word "go,"
Destined to deceive her.
He's the wrong kind of paradise.
She's gonna know it in a matter of time.
That boy's just a Walkaway Joe.

Somewhere in a roadside motel room,
Alone in the silence she wakes up too soon
And reaches for his arms.
But she'll just keep reachin' on.
'Cause the cold hard truth revealed
What it had known. . .

That boy's just a Walkaway Joe,
Born to be a leaver.
Tell you from the word "go,"
Destined to deceive her.
He's the wrong kind of paradise.
But it was just another lesson in life.
That boy's just a Walkaway Joe.

All he was was a Walkaway Joe.
Ooh, Walkaway Joe. . .
Ooh, he was a Walkaway Joe.
Ooh, Walkaway Joe. . .
Yes, he was a Walkaway Joe. . .

Run by Snow Patrol. Anyone heard this yet? If not download it and tell me what you think.. I think the lyrics are great and his voice just makes the song one of my favs.

I'll sing it one last time for you
Then we really have to go
You've been the only thing that's right
In all I've done

And I can barely look at you
But every single time I do
I know we'll make it anywhere
Anyway from here

Light up, light up
As if you have a choice
Even if you cannot hear my voice
I'll be right beside you dear

Louder louder
And we'll run for our lives
I can hardly speak I understand
Why you can't raise your voice to say

To think I might not see those eyes
Makes it so hard not to cry
And as we say our long goodbye
I nearly do

Light up...

Slower slower
We don't have time for that
I just want to find an easier way
To get out of our little heads

Have heart my dear
We're bound to be afraid
Even if it's just for a few days
Making up for all this mess

American HeadCharge

been having a lot of discouraging things happen to me, so this song grabbed me.

American Headcharge - Dirty

It’s been after me
In this place
A pleasant threat
Perfect void
Stuck in modality
With all this damage
Beyond repair

When all our time fades away
Just like everything else
That proves that we are
Dirt, so dirty, dirt, D-D-Dirty, dirty
Dirt, so dirty, dirt, D-D-Dirty, dirty
Dirt, so dirty, dirt, D-D-Dirty, dirty, dirty
Dirt, so dirty, dirt, D-D-Dirty, dirty

Stay
Now just in case
Selfish trials
Keeps stopping to
Drag me down
I’m losing bliss
As if all your hands
Could keep me clean

When all our time fades away
Just like everything else
That proves that we are
Dirt, so dirty, dirt, D-D-Dirty, dirty
Dirt, so dirty, dirt, D-D-Dirty, dirty
Dirt, so dirty, dirt, D-D-Dirty, dirty, dirty
Dirt, so dirty, dirt, D-D-Dirty, dirty

I can’t see where I’ve gone wrong
I can’t see where I’ve gone wrong

All our time fades away
That proves that we are
Dirt, so dirty, dirt, D-D-Dirty, dirty
Dirt, so dirty, dirt, D-D-Dirty, dirty
Dirt, so dirty, dirt, D-D-Dirty, dirty, dirty
Dirt, so dirty, dirt, D-D-Dirty, dirty

Dirt (If all)
So dirty, dirt (Our time)
D-D-Dirty, dirty (Fades away, that proves we’re)
Dirt (If all)
So dirty, dirt (Our time)
D-D-Dirty, dirty (Fades away, that proves we’re)

yay life. :bouncybou

Well, this is probably not quite what you're after as neither song is recent but they've both been "touching me" recently, though for very different reasons.

Song 1: Hen wlad fy nhadau (Welsh National Anthem)

Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi,
Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri;
Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwlad garwyr tra mad,
Tros ryddid collasant eu gwaed

Gwlad, gwlad,
Pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad,
Tra mor yn fur
I'r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i'r hen iaith barhau

http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/scrumv/archive/media/hen-wlad99.ram

Why? Watching 80,000 of your fellow countrymen blasting this out at Cardiff before the last game of the rugby Six Nations is enough to make you believe in dragons.... and if it doesn't send a shiver down your spine, no matter what nationality you are, you're missing a pulse 😉

Song 2: Too Much Love Will Kill You (Queen, Made In Heaven)

I'm just the pieces of the man I used to be
Too many bitter tears are raining down on me
I'm far away from home
And I've been facing this alone
For much too long
I feel like no-one ever told the truth to me
About growing up and what a struggle it would be
In my tangled state of mind
I've been looking back to find
Where I went wrong

Too much love will kill you
If you can't make up your mind
Torn between the lover
And the love you leave behind
You're headed for disaster
'cos you never read the signs
Too much love will kill you
Every time

I'm just the shadow of the man I used to be
And it seems like there's no way out of this for me
I used to bring you sunshine
Now all I ever do is bring you down
How would it be if you were standing in my shoes
Can't you see that it's impossible to choose
No there's no making sense of it
Every way I go I have to lose !!!! I have !!!!

Too much love will kill you
Just as sure as none at all
It'll drain the power that's in you
Make you plead and scream and crawl
And the pain will make you crazy
You're the victim of your crime
Too much love will kill you
Every time

Too much love will kill you
It'll make your life a lie
Yes, too much love will kill you
And you won't understand why
You'd give your life, you'd sell your soul
But here it comes again
Too much love will kill you
In the end...
In the end

Why? The song's great and has been one of my favourites for years now, but it's the guitar solo two thirds of the way through that does it. Where the rest of the song is quite quiet up to that point it's left to the Red Special to scream and the end result is stunning. With a Queen revival under way here in the UK, and the god awful state of the 'pop' music business at the moment, it really drives home what a loss it was back in 1991....

Touching songs

The song that touches me the most is "Broken" by Seether featuring Amy Lee of Evanescence. I first heard this song when Daddy and I were at odds. It made me cry and it took everything I had not to buy it and put it in his mailbox. The song still touches me whenever I hear it when Im away from him during the week.

"Broken"

I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph and I know it serves me well
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

‘Cause I’m broken when I’m lonesome
And I don’t feel right when you’re gone away

You've gone away, you don't feel me, anymore

The worst is over now and we can breathe again
I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away
There’s so much left to learn, and no one left to fight
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

[x2]
‘Cause I’m broken when I’m open
And I don’t feel like I am strong enough
‘Cause I’m broken when I’m lonesome
And I don’t feel right when you’re gone away

'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

You've gone away
You don't feel me here anymore

I rarely listen to today's music so I often hear the same old songs from the past 50 years millions of times over and over again. Well, I just listened to this one and realized how significant the words are today, even though the song is over 36 years old. Check it out. You can listen to it as you read the words. The performance is outstanding... I think you'll be familiar with the singer:

I don't know why but that song from Cinderella ( "this is love" ) really gets to me... :Kiss2: :lovestory 😱
