This afternoon, at about 425pm Eastern, a routine pop up at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas, ended the 90th loss of the season for the Atlanta Braves. The announcers said a few closing words, and then the 2008 season for the Atlanta Braves came to an end. As we baseball fans know, the Braves did not have a good season in 2008. After the game was over, I channel surfed to other games for a few minutes, and then said to myself "God, I'm not going to see my Braves again until April 6, 2009 in Philadelphia. Six months, and one week. That seems like an awfully long time.

Granted, many, many other baseball seasons have ended since I've been a fan, for the last 25 years. From 1991 to 2005, the Braves always played an extra week, at least, beyond the regular season, and sometimes, into the wee hours of an early morning in late October. Each year, there was a feeling of emptiness when the season ended. This year, seems different, maybe because at the beginning of the season, I, along with many other Braves fans, thought the team would be going back to the playoffs. Now, I sit here tonight, thinking "No Chipper at bats until next April in Philly. No Mike Gonzalez to save games. No Brian Mccann to hit homers, no muted sounds of the Tomahawk Chop Chant at Turner Field 81 nights, it's just.. silence. "

Do other fans feel this way at the end of their favorite sports seasons, whether it be baseball, hockey, basketball, or football? I know I can watch the postseason for the next four weeks, and I likely will, at least somewhat, and the official end of baseball season may not be until four weeks from today, but yet, it feels like a loss.

Tonight, I dont have a good feeling. My Boys Of Summer are gone, not to return until next April.

I'm sad.

Being a Pirates fan, I can safely say I don't go through baseball offseason withdrawals. (If anything I get stressed when the season rolls around and the Pirates are out of contention by May)

But I do get the feeling when the NFL season ends, even more so when the Steelers fail to deliver or lose in appauling fashion (which [sadly] has happened about every year but 2005)

Now that the Pens are good as well I was forlorned when puck season ended and can't wait for Sid the Kid and Geno to hit the ice again!

And now that the Durant and Sonics left Seattle I have abandoned the NBA forever.:dropatear

So yeah, it's common.

But keeps your head up, the Braves have a bright future (and so do the Falcons and Hawks... Thrashers...not so much)

Cheer up, it could always be worse.

You could be a Seattle, Cleveland or Philly fan.

I go thru certain sport withdrawls at certain times

For example. I got football now and god willing after tuesday i will have playoff baseball

Pre season has started for hockey so i have hockey starting up and basketball is.....ehhh

But baseball is my true sport so even if i had october baseball, i always wait and wish for spring when on espn you can 90% baseball highlights a day

Yes, I suffer from baseball withdrawal every year from the end of the World Series until spring training camps open in February.

I don't have those problems. I follow it all. So withdrawals are never a problem with me. Now my teams winning, that is another story. But like the Mets are eliminated now, it is on to the Jets every Sunday and I will follow my New Jersey Devils.

As a side note, I cried Sunday. Not because the Mets lost...no no no, it was because Big Beautiful Shea Stadium closed it's doors. To see all the players from the team's past. Craig Swan, Lee Mazzilli, Dave Kingman, Wayne Garrett, Cleon Jones, Rusty Staub, Doug Flynn not to mention all the Mets from 86 and forward. My life pasted before my eyes. I grew up in that stadium. When that stadium comes crashing down, so will a piece of my heart. Sunday was a sad day. Not because the Mets lost but because the placed that hosted the Mets, Jets, Yankees, Giants, the Beatles, the Doors, Janis Joplin and the Pope as well as the rescue mission after the 9/11 attacks, Mike Piazza famous homerun on 9/21/01 will be closing it's doors.

Shea Stadium will always be in my memories and in my heart!!! :smilelove

I can understand what you said, 4u, about all the memories of Shea, and there were many. For me, even though I'm not a Mets fan, my best memory, is Game Seven of the 1986 World Series. Jesse Orosco strikes out Marty Barrett, and Ray Knight hits the big homer off Calvin Sharaldi. I was there that night, and loved every minute of it. That moment, as well as Cleon Jones catching the last out of the 1969 World Series, were undoubtedly Shea's two greatest baseball moments.

I have no doubt that come next April, many great moments will be created at Citi Field.

you can ask my wife how much of a miserable asshole i am during the summer after the stanley cup finals are over. since the only sport i watch is hockey, i have to keep up with it and get my fix any way that i can. so i'm always checking out nhl.com or kings.nhl.com or i'm playing in some capacity during the summer. but now that the season has started, i'm ready to go full speed!!!! go kings!!!!

If you have a PS, X-Box or some other system you can always get a Sports game and run through a season. The best would be if you are into several sports and then you can play Foot Ball one day, Basket Ball the next, and then Base Ball, Hockey, or even soccer another. If you have a family play against the kids, or get together with you buddies on a Saturday, have a few bears and away you go. Best of all you can play on-line these days. So there really is no real Sports Withdrawl because you can always sub with a VG till the season starts.
