Wow, after sweating out game 7 versus the Lightning, OK, it wasn't really that close but it was in Tampa Bay, my Caps are finally in the Stanley Cup Finals. I think this is the most talented bunch that Ovechkin has played with in his time with the Caps. Now all Barry Trotz, Ovechkin and company have to do is get past the upstart Vegas Golden Knights, a task easier said than done.
The Knights didn't get here by luck, they are loaded as well, and that starts with Fleury.(Pittsburgh is probably kicking themselves for going with Matt Murray over Fleury). They've got a good core of role players that came together for an incredible season. Most of their roster could be on the first or second shift of most any team in the NHL, pretty incredible for a first year expansion team, although most of their roster only signed one year deals, so we'll see if this was a one shot deal or if they re-sign some of their roster.
I think these two teams are as evenly matched as can be, from goaltending, to superstars, to role players. With all that said, I think the Caps have weathered the storm of the season, FINALLY getting past Pittsburgh, Holtby's late season struggles, and holding off the Lightning not once but twice to win the Eastern Conference.
This may be a little, OK a lot biased, but I'm saying Ovechkin and company finally get to hoist the cup, Caps in 7. What say you, hockey fans?
